I see on Cingulars website that the Pearl does not show that it is 3G, what give? Why release a new phone without this capability???

Am I wrong about the 3 G?

Short for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System, a 3G mobile technology that will deliver broadband information at speeds up to 2Mbit s/sec.

Besides voice and data, UMTS will deliver audio and video to wireless devices anywhere in the world through fixed, wireless and satellite systems.

Not entirely true. The 8707v has 2100 MHz UMTS, but it's only available in Europe. Once again, the U.S. is the last to get the good stuff.

i know it is not a new phone, but it is new to cingular, and i would have thought they would have tried to get the 3g capability on it before it would have been released. but it sounds like it is just a limitation of the phone due to rim's design.

BTW, sorry for bringing the v220 into this. I know we all want to forget that POS...

Gotta save something for early next year. 🙂

Despite being a blackberry, this phone isn't geared towards the business use market. It was designed to be a 'teaser' for regular phone users to get them onto a data device.

There are new models coming within the first 6 months next year that have 3G capabilities.
