rebelrebler

i have a discount for working for the United States Postal Sersvice. i was told this is 25% off of my monthly bill which it is. 50% off of accessories which it is. waived activation fees which it is. and 50% off of ALL phone purchase transactions which it ISN'T.

i wanted to purchase a blackberry 8700 as a gift which no committment retails as $400. i go to a local store at our mall that i have been doing business with for quite a while. i tell the about my postal service discount which was added 6 months ago and stated what was said to be honored since i have this discount. the guy tells me in a very rude tone thats invalid, it only when upgrading and signing a 2 year agreement. so after 15 minutes of back and forth conversation i tell hi...

Corporate discount pricing is with a two year service commitment. There is no discount when purchasing equipment 'out right' @ retail pricing. In most cases the retail two year discount price will be greater than the corporate discount.

In the case of the 8700, two year pricing is $249.99 after mail in rebate.

If you were to use your discount, you would pay $449.99 less 50% = 224.99 with a two year commitment.

Hope that helps.

He's correct. Cingular's retail prices on phones are not that much higher than the price they purchase them at from the manufacturer. Cingular makes there money thru service agreements as do all the major carriers so they offer these attractive company discounts as a way of securing revenue thru a service agreement. selling them with a company discount without a contract would mean zero profit and loss of money. if they did this they would go out of business.....

wow. i thought that the 50% off was on all transactions. but if they were past a certain point in the contract they'd have to sign a 2 year. 😕

csp say equipment discount 50% off trans type ANY. or something to that sort.

the discount in itself works just like two year discounts, you have to be eligable for upgrade and renew for 2 years.

I've seen some accoutns on CSP that say the discounts are off upgrades, and others that have it off the retail. It varies by the type of arrangement associated with the FAN.

In my area, if the FAN has a discount on retail they can get that in a corporate store without a renewal. Since they make agents purchase the phones, it can't be done at an agent store.

I wouldn't "have" to sell anyone anything at a discounted price. If they're entitled to it I'll tell them how to get their discount, but no customer can force me to sell a product at a loss.

i've seen the same too. we usually cant honor them because we will take too much of a loss. so we try to compensate with free accessories, bluetooths at cost, etc. we usually win them over.

but im pretty sure the USPS discount says 50% equipment discount on ANY transaction type.

another thing i noticed is rebelrebler said the lady said he gets waived ets's i do see that too. i wonder how that works.

Ralph said - It varies by the type of arrangement associated with the FAN.

Sorry, that is not the case. In retail a two year agreement must be signed to get the discount.

Get with your ARSM or RAE for clarification.

IRU Policy, CSP-3/23/06
Discounts - Stores can provide the following discounts: (Pending verification and qualification for key )

Two year agreement - All IRU customers must sign a two year contract in order to take advantage of any discounts associated to their contract.

I don't do it anyway, but the corp stores out here do.

Some FANs do say they get the discount on upgrades. Others say retail. Others say any. It's listed under the transaction type.

What's the article number for that policy?

I know things are confusing but according to what you said i would take that as they get their discount at what ever base price there eligable. Back in the day ATT gave all cda corp discounts on the "map" price which means minimum advertised price. Since cingular never really gave corp. discounts and adopted it from ATT I would think thats what that means. for example if a postal woker came in to get a phone that retails for $400.00 and was $300.00 with a 2 yr upgrade than there price would be as follows.

if discount is on upgrade than $300.00 -...

if discount is on upgrade than $300.00 - 50% = $150.00

From the way it's worded, that's what I would think too. There are specific FANs with a percentage off of upgrade pricing and a different percentage off of retail. Why would they give two different options if one simply wasn't available?

As for consulting my RAE, there's no need. If I do, he'll instruct me to have them purchase the equipment through the BMG website. That's where they're supposed to get it from. Just because they're supposed to get it from there, doesn't...
