Radio Shack question/ insurance

A cust told me Radio Shack offers their own insurance and that they cannot get their phone replaced for lost/stolen ? Have you ever heard anything like that?

Yes, it doesnt provide as much coverage as carrier insurance, but it is a lot cheaper. If good for nothing else, it gives you two free batteries.

but it doesnt cover lost or stolen. atleast in harrisburg, pa.

its basically an exchange service.

example transaction: * hey my M1 screen just blacked out on me. rs employee says is it the battery? if not did you get it wet? after replying no twice he/she walks to the back and yells I NEED A RETURNED I MEAN REFURBED M1. co-worker yells GIMME A SEC I CLEANING THE FINGER PRINTS OFF MINES RIGHT NOW! HAVE YOU SEEN THE BOX?

The refurbished phones you speak of are Sprint phones that have been recertified by an authorized service center. We do not sell returned phones if they are not certified by the service center.
We are not allowed to sell any Cingular phone that has been returned. We return them to the manufacturer.

i got a refurbed 8300 when i had sprint. and it looked like if was thrown across a mall parking lot.

good thing i worked for a sprint dealer for a while that 8300 was replaced real quick.

Let me give you a definitive answer.

It is NOT an insurance program. It is an advance exchange program. It covers everything except physical damage, water damage, loss and theft. It also pays for 1 new battery every year for the duration. There is no deductable and there is a limit of 1 exchange per year with the exception of when a replacement unit is dead out of the box.
