I have some questions regarding insurance:
1) does anyone have a good explanation why Cingular doesnt offer insurance on about half of the phones it currently offers?
2) has anyone heard when Cingular may begin offering insurance on some of its higher priced handsets?
3) in regards to the 30-day sign up period for insurance, when a phone does become available for insurance, and a customer has a handset that previously wasnt insurable, does that customer now have 30 days to sign up for insurance, and if so, how are they notified that their handset is now insurable?
...
1) Cost. Plain and simple.
2) Reportedly they were looking at by the end of 2007 offering a tiered approach to insure all models, i.e. 4.99/month for cheaper phones, 6.99/month for PDA's (those numbers are just examples, not what actual cost may be) but this was before the merger with att, so may not happen, may happen quicker....
3) The 30 day period is from when you purchased the handset, thats it. If you bought a non-insurable phone, and six months later it becomes insurable, you are not allowed to add insurance.

I think your option #2 is a good way to go. I'd be willing to pay more for insurance on my smartphone and on my w810i just to have the peace of mind. It just disturbs me that most of the most popular phones that we sell are non-insurable.
...
Cost may be part of it, but there are other reasons. Lockline sends you a refurbished phone when you file a claim, they are not going to have a stockpile of refurbished phones when the phone was released last week. That's the same reason most smart phones are not insurable, they don't have a million of them in the warehouse. Otherwise, yes, it is cost.
...
I don't think cost has "much" to do with it. Of course it's gonna matter, but they don't always follow that guideline. The V3r and SLVR have a higher cost than the SYNC, but they insure the V3r and L7 but not the Sync or the REALLY old ZX20.
...
Dang, I get a lotta calls about the ZX20! Is it really that bad?
...
It just wasn't that good. I don't remember why, but people didn't like it. It may have been backlash against the ZX10.
...
Is there a third party insurance company that will cover? I have the Plam Treo 750.
...
Thats a misconception that a lot of people (Cingular employees as well!) believe. The phones sent out as insurance replacements are actually stock from Cingular. Lockline (now Assurion) only handles the claims part of it. The stock they send out is supplied by Cingular. If you have an older phone, yes, you're more likely to get a refurb. But if you have a newer device, you'll probably get a new one in return b/c they wouldnt have that many refurbs since they just came out. A person who works with lockline said that at the end of they day, almost 40% of the phones they ship out are brand new models.
...
correct info. Impressed only it's Asurion. 🙂
...
That's good to know, cause people are always yelling at me about receiving refurbs.

you might wanna check the list of phones covered now. the list was updated january 2. most are covered now. the cu500 was added along with a few others. PDA/Smartphones/Blackberries are still not covered.
...
I have the new price list and I don't know if it can vary by market, but mine indicates that the CU400 is now insurable...but not the CU500.
...
if you go to csp and search for insurance, you'll see the 1/2/2007 updated list with the cu500 and the cu500v included.
...
oh wow...awesome that'll be great incentive...thanks!
...
CU500v? What's that? I'm familiar with the CU 500, because I work for Cingular WSC, but I've never heard of the Cu 500v
...
it's the video sharing upgrade to the cu500.
...
Interesting. I wonder if Verizon will catch up.
...
hopefully now that we are the largest telecommunication company in the word, we can run away from the red check mark! 😁 haven't seen any plans for video sharing or calling from the CDMA camp. i would like to see what they have to offer.
...
live tv is the best they can do 🤣
...
It's kind of sad how they're making such a big deal out of the live tv bit. They're going on and on about it at CES, and yet it's something other carriers have had through mobitv for well over a year.
The only exciting thing about it is the company providing the tv service, not that they're finally getting it.
...
Dude, thanks! I didnt realize it had been changed. I see my w810i is still uninsurable though. That bites.
