Extended Network Question
I just signed my GF up with Cingular with a national gsm contract and noticed a clause after the fact. It said that if more than 50% of the airtime is used on other than Cingular towers, Cing reserves the right to terminate service.
When a company invokes this clause, what happens? Is the customer still liable for early termination?
Also, the phone was purchased at a steep discount, would the dealer then be able to come after me for the full price of the phone? (I had to sign something saying I would pay full price for the phone if I cancelled early.)
Thanks

It is extremely rare that a person uses more than 50% of their minutes on the extended network. Usually they issue a couple of warnings, and then disable the roaming capability.
As for the document you signed aboput the phone pricing, I am not familiar with anything like that. Perhaps it is market-specific, or something done by an indirect retail location.

Some agents out here in the west coast make you sign a separate agreement stating that you will not cancel service before the service conctract agreement or at least before 7 months or you may be liable for $300 (not including the $150 ETF). 😲

Yea, that's what I signed...just wondering if that applies if they terminate service due to the situation I mention above...

Never came across anyone being involuntarily termed for a situation like that. Cingular has been very good about it's Nation plans.

i'm an agent, and i dont' specifically have that extra agreement, however what i do, is, if the customer cancels within the first 6 months, they pay me 110 dollars, that's what cingular pulls back from me, that's involuntary or voluntary, we can't help that, cingular charges us no matter what it is, if it's cancelled or terminated in the first 6 months, they pull our commission.

She is on the edge of a coverage area, any north of where she lives and a Cell One tower picks up the calls. I'm concerned that that might be where she does >50% of her air time.
