I have a data plan on my current phone (new plan, not up for renewal). I'd like to get a blackberry pearl but I can't afford full price for one now.

Do you think I could get a pearl with a new data only plan (get the discounted phone), and then delete the data plan off my current phone. Then merge once I have the two seperate plans, I'll see if cingualr can merge the two plans together into one combined data/phone plan only for the blackberry? Then I want to give the other phone away and just use the blackberry for a phone and data. I don't care if I need to get a new phone number.

Know that was confusing, but if you follow...would that work?

If I'm following correctly, then not really...

You've got one phone(A). It has a data plan. You want a new phone(B). You want to get that on a data only plan, so no voice. Then... no.

The way your first phone(A) is set up is the only way to do it. You've got your voice plan, with a data add-on. There's no combined voice+data plan.

If you want get a new phone(B) on a new line at a discount, that phone has a contract. Your current phone has a contract. If you cancel one of the phones you'll have the ETF. The new line will also have an activation fee of $36. To get the mail in rebate you'd have to have service for three months on that number as well. That would cost you more in the long run, so lets just leave the rebate out...
