Any way to find out who's network I'm roaming on? It just says "Extended Cingular"

What is a preferred roaming partner?

You guys on this forum have been quite helpful. Thanks for everything so far.

If you have a cingular phone and it says extended Cingular then you are on Cingular's leased network. Which means you are on towers that Cingular pays other companies for you to roam on that Cingular does not own themselves.

In other words it's still technically Cingular. They just don't own the tower.

correct me if I'm wrong, but if you were roaming on, say AT&T's network, wouldn't the phone either notify you by saying "AT&T" or "roaming"?

it would not show roaming. "cingular extend" is a generic term for "off-our-company-owned-network" and we dont display the company name like ATTW does. basically, if you have a new nation plan, it doesnt matter, since there is no roaming in the US.

Yea...My old man lives overseas and has a provider called SingTel but when he is in NY it says T-Mobile. If I were using a cing phone on a nonpreferred partner, would it say the company's name?

Is "Extended" considered "Cingular" or considered "Roaming"?

I guess my real question is whether "Cingular Extended" is different from say a nonpreferred roaming partner, etc... Or if no distinction is made.

None of these other idiots would give you a straight answer, but it's mainly ATTWS and T-Mobile. There are many other roaming partners around the country like IowaWireless, Einstein PCS, USA 360, 370, 380, 390 (US Cellular), etc. You will only pick up the carriers in the IRDB (International Roaming Data Base) that Cingular wants you to pick up.

that clears up no more to anyone than any other post, and please refrain from name calling, there's no need for it and it makes you seem childish...

Like i said previously, "Cingular Extend" will be diplayed on the phone if you are using a "non company owned" tower. whether it be TMobile, ATTW, etc. it will not differentiate if you are roami...
