Motorola Rep.

For the first time in my year tenure of selling Cingular, I was finnally able to meet a phone representative. Our motorola rep came in to my store yesterday and I was able to play with some new toys....these are all phones designed for the Cingular network in the next year.

V180 - All black with the external CID It's also tr-band with a speaker phone. Basically its the same as the V220 minus the poor camera with a color screen. Replaces the T720 in moto's lineup. Better late than never right?

MPX220 - Well, it was a silver version of what Verizon and Sprint carry(black). Crisp screen, with microsoft office 2004. Didn't spend too much time with this one.

V551 - Very nice!! Externally it looks like the V300 with the blue border. The r...

Thanks Will. Since the a630 was the only working model can we assume that it'll be hittin stores fairly soon? Or did you get any info on that? That's really the only one I'm waitin on, to replace my v60x which is so crappy a toilet would spit it back out.

from what i have heard, the a630's call quality and reception are for the birds. but they could change thatin the final production model, i suppose. The smae person who tested that phone is currently using a RAZR and has said it is the best phone he has ever used in every aspect.

No offense, but I'd really rather hear it from the horse's mouth. Everyone's heard "my friend who's brother is testing the phone says it's crap" and then it turns out fine, or the brother says it's great and it's crap. Since I can't hear it for myself until it's released I'd rather hear first hand. No offense though I'm sure your source is reliable.

Then there's the question of how the final production models will be and more importantly how they'll work in my own area.

my source is the sales operations manager for the market i work in, who happens to also be my brother-in-law. he has tested pretty much every phone the comapny has (and hasnt) sold in the last few years (inclu...

Like I said, I don't question your source. But as always I'm a skeptic. Can't help it. Ideally I'd love to try these all out and decide for myself, but that's not feasible. So a first hand approach, I feel, is the best I can get. Thanks for your input though.

i hear ya. i know there are a few situations where a phone works better in one area than another. Also, the a630 he has is a really beta version, so it may have hardware improvements since then, but usually he sees only software improvements.

we'll have to wait and see i guess. i just want the RAZR, i dont really care about the 630 personally.

I have been one of the lucky Cingular employees to test out a few Moto phones. I actually own an a630 but since it's the prototype (not FCC approved), it's really buggy (slow, RF is decent at best and sometimes it shuts off by itself). I've toyed with a working version of the v551. It's really nice but kept freezing. I don't know if it had to do with those cheap GEM PLUS SIM cards. The marketing manager is using the v3 at this moment and I've heard of the V620. I've also played with the mpx220. Lotsa features and really cool. I'd personally would take the v180 over the v200. That camera is garbage. I heard that the a630 may sell online only. Agents would be out of luck. 😡

Gemplus SIM cards are fine, i dont know what you are referring to. The only difference betwee nthem and the Schlumberger SIM's are the satin vs. glossy finish to the card.

For Cingular branded phones that have gone through testing and been launched, of course they'll work fine since that's the majority of SIMs that we're providing. But, in regards to non Cingular phones, they tend to act up a bit.
