about wi-fi on a phone
i see alot of people who won't get pda plan but will use wi-fi
i know wi-fi is free but is it really as far as for phones? don't you need a pda plan to connect without charges?
i know wi-fi is just a free service but does mean free web for phones?
...
I am pretty sure that it is free. The wi-fi pda plans allow wi-fi connections where the carriers provide them such as t-mobile hot-spots. The wi-fi in your home is totally different. Your phone(atleast on cingular phones) should be able to connect to this service without a pda plan and should not incur data charges.

You have access to a local wifi network, either one that you have a password to, or an open/free one. No mobile carrier has a wifi network deal. T Mobile and AT&T/Cingular have hotspots set up, but those are separate networks & separate divisions of the company, so if you're using wifi on your home network using an MDA/8125, for example, there's no way your carrier could know.
Of course, that's to say nothing of UMA, which is a whole different animal.

umm actually for 29.99 you get unlimited internet on the phone and unlimited access to the T-mobile hotspot network... At least according to thier website..
"T-Mobile Internet
The T-Mobile Total Internet Add On Feature gives you unlimited Internet access and unlimited T-Mobile HotSpot access. Use T-Mobile Internet to access your e-mail and browse the Internet no matter where you are"
For 29.99...

japhy didn't say anything about the cost of T-mo hotspots. He said wifi is free to use if the network is open.
He did mention that cell phone carriers have wifi networks set up that you can use if you're paying for it, but his comment was addressing how to get wifi for free.

Oh.. I guess I misunderstood "No mobile carrier has a wifi network deal" Gotcha..
Well then of course its free on your own home wifi ..or your neighbors 😉

yeah, the bars I go to usually have free wifi (if you're a paying customer) too. You just ask them for the password and that's it.
I heart wifi.
