Beware of SBC ordering

Yes, I've got another complaint. 🙂

When I ordered over the phone with SBC, I was told if I didn't like the phones, I could exchange them at a local Cingular store within the 15-day trial period. (Phones were supposed to be free; substituted without notification.)

Now I'm being told that I would have to send the phones back to SBC and then go into the store and get a whole new contract, new numbers, etc.

What gives? Anyone had this experience ordering through SBC for Cingular service?

Hi Marcus from cingular-sbc customer service team. I wrok for cingulae dealiing with customers that order their phones from sbc. It used to be true that u could exchange the phones at a corporate store. Those dealers can but just won't because they are not getting any commission. You do have to send the phones back through the mail. Make sure u send it back and call sales at 1877-408-2418 and give them the tracking number. Once they can verify that the phone is thier they will do a reship. If u do not want to do this u can just cancel the order and go to a store ad do a new activation.

Thanks for the confirmation of information.

I have more details on my other post (activation) and stated there that my local Cingular store was willing to exchange the phones even though I explained I purchased them through SBC. SBC had made it plain that I could not do that (though I had been told I could at the time of sale).

Re returning to SBC--once I/Cingular confirm the phones have been received, are you saying I would have to cancel the contract altogether (through SBC) in order to get exchanged/different phones through a Cingular store?

SBC is now only offering 2 phones on their site, and they are not as nice as what I have. Knowing what I know now, I think if I return the phones to SBC (joystick inconsistencies), then I w...

Yeah, I had a NIGHTMARE experience with ordering through SBC. But I won't go into it here. ;) You should be able to order the service through Cingular and then call and have them set you up with SBC billing. THe combined billing shoulf take effect after you get your first Cingular bill. Good luck

Yeah, I saw your post about your problem ☚ī¸ and answered back to you.

I'm all set now and very happy so far...just wish I had found this forum before I called SBC! 😉

Is the sales number where I should call with other questions, like about rebate and free DVD offers?

On the SBC site, it shows a $50 rebate on plans $39.99 and above--limited time offer (no date shown)--mail-in. Does that mean Family Talk Plans, as well?

I did not receive a mail-in rebate for this offer in my welcome kit--only rebates for the phones (which I've posted my problem with on another thread).

No all of those offers are sbc promotions. The welcome kit is from cingular and phone rebates are through cingular. What u have to do is contact sbc if u have not received the gift cards. the sales number that i gave u is for cingular wireless. If u have any other cingular questions u can email me at [email protected]. I can answer all of your cingular concerns about rebates.

Thanks. I mailed in the rebates from the Cingular site (up to 5 phones, no restrictions) after talking to the Rebate people. I sent them Certified Mail to make sure they get there. 🙂 I hope it works!

Your problem is typical of SBC conduct. I hate them.

I have reported so many SBC reps for poor conduct. Mostly lies about cingular to many lies to mention. It has gotten a little better but it has created such a problem with churn. If SBC was not such a cheap activation for cingualr they would be gone. SBC activations cost cingular zero dollars because cingular does not even pay the commissions SBC does.
