How much better is it really?

I will be switching my Family Share plan from VZW to Cingular in about three weeks. I have narrowed my phone choices down to either the SE W810i or the SE W300i. I have read MANY reviews on both, and they both seem like great phones. But for some reason, the W300i is often referred to as a good "lower-end" phone while the W810i is referred to as an "upper-end" phone. To be honest, I don't see all that much difference between the two other than the camera resolution. Is the W810i really that much better of a phone? If you think so, why?

The biggest differences are like you said the camera, and the w810 comes with 128 mb built in memory, with the ability to upgrade to 1gb, while the w300 comes with 64mb standard, and the ability to upgrade to 512mb. ( I don't know if the w300i can use the 1gb or not... just going by the spec sheet)

Thanks for the reply. So, if I'm not worried about taking pictures or loading a ton of music on the phone, are there any other advantages to the W810i? Is the build quality any better? How about the call quality or the Bluetooth performance?

Havent heard anything... SE phones are usually pretty good quality wise. I have heard the 810 is a little louder with music than the 300, but if you're not worried about that, then really the deciding factor would be style: do you want flip or candy bar style, which color do you prefer... etc

To tell you the truth, I kinda prefer flip phones so I've been leaning toward the w300i. It's just that I've noticed the price of the w810i has come down some and if it's truly a better phone in some way, I would maybe get one. Extra features aren't as important to me as quality. I want a good solid phone with good performance.

Well I always try to upsell customers to the w810 becuase it comes with the data cable, head phones, and the 128 memory stick where as the w300 doesnt come iwth any of that. Screen resoultion is much clearer and better on the w810. The w810 includes an ambient light detector so basically if its bright outside the screen will get brighter so its easier to read. The darker it is outside the darker your screen will get to preserve battery life. Hope this helps...

That does help a lot. Thank you. I didn't realize that the w810i comes with the cable and memory card. That's pretty cool. 🙂

Your slightly off a tad. You can upgrade the w810 to a 4gb MSPD and in all probability, 8gb.

Best reception I've ever had on a phone Matt. I cant judge the w300 because I've never had it. And even though the camera isnt important, its nice to have a good one at any given time, day or night. Chances are you never really put much stock into taking pictures with your phone because they weren't very good. With the w810, all that would change.

That's good to know. The reception is very important to me. It's also good to know the camera takes decent photos. Who knows...I might use it in a pinch. I have a $800 6MP DSLR for photography. 😎

I'm sure I'll love having a camera with me all the time. 🙂 It's just a much bigger priority for me to have a good phone. I'm glad the w810i has good reception. How's the call quality? Have you mated it with a Bluetooth headset? If so, which one works well with it? Thanks for answering all my questions!

Call quality is great. I have it mated with 5 BT headsets, all work fine. Plantronics 640 and 320. Moto HS850 and HS820 and Nokia BH-800.

I love mine, I have had it since June of last year. I got the 4gb MSPD and there is basically nothing I dislike about this phone. Another superb feature is battery life. Simply amazing.

I will hush. I hope they dont stop carrying it before your 3 weeks is up!! I got me a Krusell case, as I do with all my phones, and it looks as perfect as the day I got it. Not a scratch or blemish no where to be found.

😁
