Goin' from GAIT to GSM
The Cingular company store says they cannot put me on a GSM plan w/these phones. They say it might roam onto analog or TDMA, and I would get roaming charges. They say I have to buy all new GSM phones. Here's the twist: A kid that works for me got the Nation GSM plan, and they sold him a 6340i! He travels some, and has not seen any roaming charges.
I am hesitant to give up these phones since my wife and I have car kits in our cars. I am not opposed to buying GSM phones, and when we travel use them. My question: Is it the phone or the plan you are on that determines what system your p...

It is that reason why you cannot put the 6340 on the GSM Nation plan. If you know that you could be subject to roaming, I don't see why Cingular would not put you on the plan. However, if you could get the phone on the plan and you were billed roaming, Cingular would not issue the credit.
I had a co worker at my old store in Lubbock who put a customer on a GSM Nation plan with a SE T62U. In West Texas GSM was shacky, and the customer picked up $789 in roaming. Well guess who tried to despute the roaming??? The customer, and guess who had to pay it all...the customer. He knew ahead of time that there was a chance for roaming.
The problem is you can't tell the phone to pick only GSM towers....if that were the case than it wou...

Thanks for your prompt response. That was exactly the information I needed. I do NOT want to rack up roaming charges, I just wanted verification that Cingular was not just trying to sell phones.
I guess I will bite the bullet and replace the cradles also (for the new Nokia 6010 phone.) Maybe I can sell the old ones to some friends who have compatible phones.
Thanks again.

Does Cingular not have a no roaming plan for GAIT phones? I know AT&T does but it's extreamly expensive and it's getting so the areas you need digital are getting smaller and smaller so 80% of customers don't need anything more than GSM...But there is still that 20% that do.
yes we do, the basic plan is $35 for 200 minutes, then $45 for 400 rollover/1000 n&w, and then up from there...if you are looking for a specific number on anytime mins, let me know, i can give you the closest rate
GAIT is expensive, and the coverage and idea is great, but the technology sucks. All three of our phones get stupid, shut off, tell us to insert SIM card, go right to voice mail, etc. (YEs, I got all the software updates when they came out.)
Cingular does not even have it on the KC MO website anymore, so I think they are getting ready to cut off any new customers to that plan.
