AT&T Mobility
I know the initial thought was to leave it at AT&T , but that just seems so infeasible to me as a consumer. I would think that they're going to do something indicating wireless with the name and I've read a lot of references to AT&T Mobility in other press releases about Cingular's quarterly results today.
Has anybody else heard anything? I kind of like the ring of AT&T Mobility, and it could just as easily be branded under that New AT&T.
"AT&T Mobility, part of the New AT&T."
Oh, and I have also read some opposition to the "Mobility" portion as many of the ...

A: Externally we are known as Cingular, but we are transitioning that name to AT&T. After a period of co-branding, AT&T will be the sole name you will see in commercials, on our stores, etc. Our name in the marketplace will become AT&T.
Legally the name of our operating subsidiary, Cingular Wireless LLC, is βAT&T Mobility LLC,βΒ but that name that will not be promoted or widely used in any way other than for legally necessary purposes. This helps distinguish us from other subsidiaries of AT&T. We will use AT&T Mobility on our business cards and stationery as well as other internal communications.
I find it hard to believe that the wireless unit being named AT&T with no identifier is going to be understood. Average consumers are not going to recognize that AT&T actually means AT&T's wireless division unless it is specifically stated.
I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T actually did promote the AT&T Mobility name by year's end.
Remember the name Sprint PCS? PCS=wireless identifier.
The same thing goes for Alltel. They were formally known as Alltel Wireless until they divested their wireline division.
Just take a minute to browse through all of the major telecom units and their wireless divisions in the past. Any company that consisted of both wireline and wireless services at some point had an identifier for their wireless division.
What a great catchy name for a cellular outfit.
