PDA and Smartphone?

Whats the difference between a PDA and a smartphone? I'm considering the Samsung Blackjack smartphone for the wife. Any advantages or dissadvantages?

I've noticed a difference in price for Data of the two. If I do the Blackjack, my sales rep tells me I can do $29.99 unlimited data for smart phone and that gives me 1000 messages too. However, the 8525 is $49.99 for unlimited data for PDA and 1000 messages.

Wow i hate this question....
your rep is wrong
u can use the black jack with the PDA package only which is $39.99 for only data or $49.99 with 1000 messages (these are more than just test messages )

tell your rep he is a moron and i said so

also
blackjack can read documents only out the box
unless u get an application for it to edit and such

the 8525 does it all cause its not windows smartphone its windows 5.0 pocket pc edition

either way u are gonna spend the same
get what u like better

So, the main difference is basically to edit documents on a PDA?

also the blackjacks internet is diffrent. the 8525 you can go to any internet site (except doing your bankin) but the blackjacks internet is dumbed down to an extent. I know i have the 8525 and download music and other things off the net and my buddy has a blackjack and he cant go to the site i go to i just doesnt allow him to. the 8525 is really an amazing phone. but if you dont care all to much about the net the blackjack is a good phone too.

oh and your rep is an idiot and the 39.99 a month or 49.99 with 1000 text is what you would be paying

Ok, so which phones would use the $29.99 smart phone data package? I used the Pearl for personal and it's $39.99 for unlimited data and 1000 mes...

the 29.99 is media max for just the media net on any phone. it does not cover any pda or smartphone.

Ok, I think I misunderstood my sales rep. I got my wife the Samsung blackjack today. He put her on the $29.99 Smartphone connect Max plan that is $29.99 per month. He said that smartphones, such as the Blackjack and 3125, do not require PDA connect plans.

I have yet to see a bill yet, but he says the smartphone connect MAX plan is $29.99 for unlimited data and 1000 messages per month.

I told him about phonescoop and he told me to ignore the information on here because it is normally incorrect. I will hold him accountable for all the information he has given me.

I read the rebate form and it says unlimited data plan $39.99 or higher OR media max plan. Therefore, Smartphone connect doesn't appear to be the right one - but media max or Pda connect is.

Media Max is for standard cellphone MediaNet browsing..... Any KNOWLEDGEABLE rep will advise you that the PDA connect is the correct plan for the Blackjack, trust me, I have one. I wouldn't pay 39.99 for something if I didnt need to... your agent or whoever set you up set you up with the wrong thing. There is some confusion among Cingular reps about which package goes on the Blackjack, but that doesnt change the fact that if the reps would take the time to look up the information it clearly states the Blackjack should have the 39.99 PDA connect package.

I work for a cingular agent and I have the unlimited Medit net on my employee account its 19.99 soc code is (MNUN) and I have always had it on my account and I have carried the blackjack, 8125, 8525 and now the treo 750.

to get rebates and TECHNICALLY you are supposed to have the 39.99 so that we make more but it IS possible to use the cheaper one as far as i'm aware

You are dealing with a very shady rep.

the rebate states

"Requires activation on a $39.99 or higher data plan or $19.99 Messaging Xtreme plus a voice plan of $39.99 or higher"

Messaging extreme is not a "media" feature, just a text pact.

You can get away with another media plan, which what I assume the rep is trying to do to make it look like a good deal. But it will incure weird charges later on because cingular system will not always take your media into account. And of course you will not get your rebate.

Their are reasons why it states it requires a specific feature for the phone, if not they wouldn't say anything about it.

If I were you, I'd go to the back and demand your money back, report him to a manager (the less ...
