Need a new phone for old att service

I am one of the ATT charter customers - unlimited minuts, text, etc. for $99. I need a new quad band smartphone (I travel to Europe a lot), and am looking for reliable sources for one. Of course, Cingular tells me that I must give up my old plan - is that true?

If I get a new phone with high speed data access, will I be able to use this feature under the ATT plan?

Any help/pointers are appreciated.

I beleive your time on that plan is shortlived per everyone in here.. Your bill is about to jump up a big amount for less service.. if you go for 3G.. Sooorry..

Definitely NOT. You can not add a feature like that to a blue account. And isn't this a TDMA plan as well? I might just be a bit rust on my blue stuff but that's what I thought.

Well, I'm sure SOME high up rep could add a feature like that if it were the end of the world, but they won't go to any length to do it otherwise.

This is a GSM service - I have a tri-band smt5600 phone right now, but I want to upgrade to a phone with more data capabilities and a better screen. I can add mmmode data feature, but do not know what speed they operate at.

unfortunatly you can't. you can get an at&t or unloced phone throu ebay and such, but not with cingular stores. reason why is because you can't add something to what doesn't exist anymore. You can get a pda handset, even with GPRS/EDGE/3G/WiFi, but there won't be a PDA plan available. as far as the mmmmode they run under GPRS, you might be able to get on EDGE/WiFi with the right handset thou
