Help with Samsung A747

Hello,

My brother just got 2 Samsung A747, ported 2 lines from Verizon. They were dropping calls so the corporate ATT store replaced the SIM cards. Now, the phones constantly display an E (edge) on the display, even in good reception areas, in the western suburbs of Chicago. Since this is a 3G phone, why is the phone using edge? Shouldn't the "3G" indicator be on? Is there a setting somewhere to make the phone use 3G?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Simple Activation Questions for AT&T reps

My wife's phone is available for upgrade the day before her birthday. She wants an iPhone. 1) can I get the iPhone ahead of time if we don't activate until her birthday? Can we activate outside of the store? (I understand that there is more to activating an iPhone than swapping a SIM.)

iPhone 3G

Walked into an ATT store today and picked up and played with the iphone.

For those that said that ATT 3G network isn't fast, well no not on the iphone I agree. On my RAZR it is, when I had an 8525 it was great.

but yes the iphone, after playing with just 3 minutes could see the flaws, is sub par phone at best.

all the money that went into marketing the thing, wasted.

Its money that could have been spent somewhere else.

SE and Nokia 3G phones need to be sought after.

'I Am Rich' iPhone Application Retails for $1,000

Just came across this funny story. Apparently those who want their iPhone to scream "status symbol" can now buy an application from the App Strore on Itunes that will put a glowing red gem on your iphone screen...for $999.99.

To be fair, I went to the iTunes store and searched for all apps by "Armin Heinrich", the named author right before posting this and only found Calc Pro. So chances are its satire.

But still a good chuckle.

$30 a bit much?

I don't know if I'm the only one that thinks this, but isn't $30 a bit much for unlimited texting for everyone on the family plan? Shouldn't they lower it down to something more manageable such as $15, with unlimited internet $20?

I guess seeming Verizon charges the same we'll never see the price go down though ☹️

Facing Early Termination but....

I know that there was some ruling recently issued by the gov't but I'm not sure where things stood for those customers who were willing to terminate their contract with ATT.

Does anyone have the scoop on this? I'm considering moving to Verizonwireless.

But would like to keep my same number...

What about this?

I think cellular service providers should do just that, provide service, NOT phones of any kind. Directv does not provide TVs nor does ATT home provide home phones. I dont care about the higher price for the phones. I think if you cant afford the phone then you dont need the service and also this could do away with contracts, and the need for such a large customer service because when you have trouble with you phone you would call the manufacture not the service provider and then they would not need as many employees and should be able to lower there service rates. Think about it we would be so much better off this way. Just like when a new HD TV comes out you dont have to wait to your contract is up to get it, you just go to Circuit City of...

Can I use ANY phone with AT&T prepaid, if so how?

OK,lookin for someone out there who knows the answer to the infernal 😈 question...

I've heard that ANY of AT&T's phones can be used with the GoPhone prepaid service, if the SIM card of my prepaid phone is placed inside the new phone... if that's not possible, does anyone out there know how I can use just any AT&T phone with their Pay As You Go prepaid GoPhones?

And if that's true, why doesn't AT&T mention it at the website when a person is checking out their prepaid phone selection?

I have a Nokia 2610 with AT&T GoPhone already so was sort of thinking since the phone is beginning to act like it's going to quit on me someday (like the phone, though)... I could get a truly nice QWERTY type device on prepaid to replace it?

how does one determine if their phone qualifies for media net?

does anybody know? i'm switching from my 8925 to probably a symbian phone because it seems like most of those at&t consider smart phones and won't require PDA connect for internet use, but according a rep i talked to there is not a definate way to determine whether a phone is considered a PDA or smart phone unless it's made for at&t and most of the phones i am looking at are not made for at&t.

Thinking of switching from Verizon

I am the lone holdout on Verizon in terms of all my family and friends.

So I think the time has come to switch.

I am pretty basic. I just need a phone. Currently I have a Verizon W385 with extended battery. I get great call clarity. Much better than my brothers phone *before* he got 3G. And I admit the voice clarity is pretty much on par with Verizon.

I know Verizon probably has more coverage. But I view coverage as where I am likely to travel. I am not likely to travel to some small town population of 12.

Anyway the most crucial thing to me on a phone is battery life. And I hear that 3G phones really suck battery. Can anyone share any experiences with what 3G phones would have the best battery? Or do I even need a 3G? The call...
