ok my choice to upgrade to a pearl is in april and they told me that I would have to pay $150 to upgrade. I actually have two questions. Would I be able to keep my current plan or do i have to change plans? Second am I better off going to Cingular/ATT and getting more minutes and getting the phone free. My current plan I pay 39 for like 600 minutes since i dont use all of it but i end up paying close to $85 cause of unlimited text and insurance and what not. Im just trying to figure out the better deal. If I only have to pay $150 for upgrade without changing my plan I am set but if they make me change my plan am i better off just going to ATT? I hope this make sense lol

You only have to change your plan when you decide to. T-Mo won't make you do it to upgrade your phone.

Do I have to get the data plan. I really wont be taking advantage of the email features or internet. Just want to have a sexy phone and play videos on it.

You don't need the data plan. You can ADD a BB feature and keep your existing plan. You don't have to add the feature, either. But you will not only have no internet or e-mail access, but you also will not be able to use picture messages. Text messages will still work.

Not really. Though we have features that include the charges for picture messaging and text messaging, they're both actually SENT in completely different ways. Text messages are sent through the VOICE part of the network, always GSM, whereas pictures messages are sent through the DATA part of the network, whether it's GPRS, EDGE, Danger, or Blackberry. So, since picture messages are sent through the data portion, and the BB uses the BB servers for data, you need the BB feature. Does that make sense?

Not trying to be negative here, but I don't recommend the Perl for video unless you are technically savvy enough to find the video conversion software and instructions on your own. Its one of those "not supported" things.
If you are, then great! It does do a very good job playing video, but its fairly picky about the format.
Also, if you don't have the Blackberry Internet feature you can't download ringtones, wallpapers, etc. in addition to not being able to use picture (MMS) messaging.
Additionally, when you get your Perl, make sure it has the MyFaves logo on the back (if its a black one) or its a white one, otherwise you will need to do a software update on it before it will accept a 2GB microSD card. (not as hard as it sounds, but a li...

yea I have free software that can do it. The update would be available thru tmobile or blackberry site? im debating on if picture messaging is worth it. I asked a question in the other forum if the pearl does have a headphone jack so I could listen to the videos or do I have to use the ear piece.

It has a 2.5mm headset jack. I think the white version comes with stereo earphones, but the black only a mono one. (not 100% on this) (you can get stereo ones off the internet either way)
Also, the perl can't (yet) play audio from mp3s or video through Bluetooth.
The software update should be available through My T-Mobile if you need to do it.

I think the BB feature is worth $19.99. I use the email feature a lot. All of my yahoo emails are pushed to my phone which I have found to be very useful.

so I ended up staying with tmobile so i didnt have to do the mail in rebate which was nice and they gave me 200 more minutes. I am getting my pearl today 🙂 O and the software that I did find to do the video is a program called Blackberry Video its free and it seems easy. I just hope I get my card this weekend and I have the case on its way 🙂
