Connecting to WWW w/ Pocket PC via T-mobile phone and Bluetooth?

I am currently with AT&T and use Bluetooth to connect my Pocket PC (iPaq 1945) to my Nokia 3650 (using #99...#) to surf the Web, check email, etc. It works really well. They charge $24.99/mo for "unlimited" mMode access. The problems is that you only have truly unlimited access if you view the mMode content on your phone. If you connect your handheld to the phone via Bluetooth and surf they charge you per kb!

I am planning to switch to T-Mobile. My question: If I want to do this with T-Mobile (Handheld=>phone=>Web), which data plan do I need (T-zones or T-mobile Internet)? I've gotten mixed answers from T-Mobile support. They agree that usage will come out of my data alotment (not minutes). They have not been clear on which dat...

😁 Here is your answer T-Mobile will give you more. Instead of AT&T's crappy service, switch to T-Mobile and sign up for the "T-Mobile Internet add-on plan" and you get unlimited data usage for only $19.99 a month, this is not including the voice plan charges. For example if you had: 39.99 plan that includes 600 minutes with Unlimited Night and Weekend minutes and you decide to add the "T-Mobile Internet add-on plan" for $19.99, your plan would be 39.99 + 19.99 = $59.98 with out tax and the other charges. Your total cost after taxes and things would be like $70 or $75 dollars.

Here is a link with more info. on the "T-Mobile Internet add-on plan"

Thanks for the quick response.

That makes sense, but when I go to the T-Mobile web site and try to select that configuration (using a Nokia 3660 as an example + $39.99 voice + $19.99 Internet) it will not allow me. It says that there is no Internet plan available for this phone.

😁 Yes, I see what you mean. So, I just spoke to T-Mobile customer care, and they said that you would have to sign-up for service then you would be able to get the T-Mobile unlimited plan for 19.99 added on to the existing account. You should go into a T-Mobile Corporate store and sign up, or call 1-800-TMOBILE which is 1(800)-866-2453. You would be able to speak to someone live about the current price plans and find out more info on the "$19.99 T-mobile Internet Add-on plan". I hope this helps. Write back! 😁 😎

🙂 Thanks for checking into it for me. I'll give them a call. Off the top of your head, do you know if the unlimited Internet plan includes T-zones so I can check WAP content on my phone when I don't have my handheld?

😁 Yes, I had the service before. You get T-Zones and T-Mobile Internet on your phone, since T-Mobile is sending the data to your phone, therefore you get T-Zones. 😁 Holla Back if you need more info on this. When you get the T-Mobile Internet on your phone, you might have to call T-Mobile after you get your account set up, and talk to the Data Department so they can help you configure your phone and PDA to connect with each other using a bluetooth connection or infra-red connection a.k.a. IrDA port.

My situation probably isn't what should be happening, and I've only tried it once about a month ago. But I've succesfully used my 3650 as a bluetooth modem, using T-zones as my access point.

Supposedly t-mo only opens the ports for WWW/WAP(80), SMTP, and POP for the T-Zones plans. But when my cable modem access went out for about 12 hrs, I used my 3650 as a bluetooth modem, and using my T-zones access point, was able to connect to AIM through port 5190, multiple IRC networks at the same time, and I was able to make an FTP connection over port 21 as well. They didn't charge me anything extra either.

I live in the cleveland area just for reference.
