Family Time Basic Plan...change?

OK, so I see the new $69.99 850 Shared Whenever minutes plan with free M2M calling and free unlimited n&w as well as the newly introduced $129.99 2500 Shared Whenever minutes plan with free M2M calling and free unlimited n&w.

What about changes to up the minutes on the $49.99/month 400 Shared Whenever Minutes plan with free M2M calling and free unlimited n&w? It would be real nice to see that too for the customers on the basic family time plan. Would make things a heck of a lot more competitive. Just a thought.

I wouldn't count on it. The basic family plan is an extremely good value for the money and it doesn't clear the company much revenue due to how little we charge for it, which is reflected by the fact that the 400 min family plan does not accrue tenure toward handset discount. This being the case I doubt there will be enhancements to the plan because it is already a loss leader, so to speak.

If this is a loss leader, then why introduce it in the first place? And as far as this not clearing the company much revenue, I strongly beg to differ with that statement. There is a simple logic to this that states that if the deal is attractive, the customers will come. (For example, if they introduce a ...

A loss leader is intended to get people in the door... 90% of the time someone comes in asking about the 400 minute Family Time plan, I end up selling them the 800 minute one, simply because they see the wisdom in buying a few extra minutes just to be safe. I tell them to check it out for a month or two and then if they really aren't using more than 400 minutes to switch down. Wanna make a bet on how many people DON'T ever end up switching? As far as T-Mobile improving the 49.99 offering, look at it this way... No other carrier even has an option for two lines at that price point. Verizon is 59.99 for 400 minutes, and Cingular is 59.99 for 450. What would be their incentive to offer more at that price? They already have the market comp...

I just want to add one thing that is somewhat related, but I think a very valid point...you mentioned in your first reply the $49.99 price plan not being eligable towards the "same as new" upgrade pricing, and someone else thinks theres not very good value in it--Well here are my thoughts on that, now bear with me I'm not a mathmatical genuis, but if I'm not mistaken here is goes...situation...customer #1 is on $39.99/mo pricing plan, customer #2 is on $29.99 pricing plan, and both customers have their plan for the same 12 month contract time. they both decide to upgrade the same day, and so we tell customer #1 sure you can have this wonderful FREE nokia phone when you sign up for another year...and customer #2 who has also been with us for ...
