CDMA in the int'l game?

I just stumbled upon this, and seems to have been out already for a short while. VZW is wanting a piece of the interntaional pie, and GSM. Through Motorola (tentitively) and samsung (currently sch-a790) has a hybrid phone and an official "take your phone anywhere in the world" program. It is CDMA 800 / CDMA 1900 / GSM 900 / GSM 1800, and doesnt have the capability to roam such as tri-mode (with amps) verizon phones can, so *Requires network connection in Verizon Wireless digital service area. Airtime and other service fees apply.*
GSM 1900 is not available, or even 850 for that matter, so not only can the phone not be used in north america the phone is programed to only search actively for cdma, and then when set in int'l mode for gsm 900/...

However, I wonder where VZW is going with this? Do you think they are planning on releasing a GSM network in the US? (creating a lineup of these phones such as cingular/aws did when they converted from tdma-gsm? though those phones were tdma/analog/and 1900gsm in 6340, and 800gsm in i model, also in the like SE T62u).

Or would it better benefit them to stay with cdma here, work on their roaming agreements, and further deveolp the hybrids?

It's still interesting, none the less.


Well, since CDMA doesn't really roam as easi...

Wouldn't it be just so surprising if Voafone sells out its ownership in VZW and re-invests into the New Cingular? It almost happened when ATTWS first went up on the auction block. Could Verizon be reacting to some "external pressure"?
