it appears T-Mobile US don't have good phone selection, at least compare to other providers
then, why bother T-Mobile stops selling phones, and let customers to bring his own?

Customers can already bring their own. Any unlocked GSM phone so long as it is capable of GSM 1900 will work with T-Mobile. As far as getting rid of all subsidies that's not likely to happen anytime soon. Carriers use free or severely discounted phones as a carrot to entice new customers.
