Before New Phones become available?

😁 Hi: I have a question. Before a phone comes out on the market, is it true that the Manufacturer comes to the service provider and shows them their portfolio with phones and the service provider reviews them and makes their selections, and then the manufacturer provides it to the service provider. Or, the service provider tells the manufacturer what they want in a phone and then the manufacturer make the phone based on the company's needs? I think its the first one, not the second one.

I have heard that a manufacturer goes to the service providers and asks them to review some phones that manufacturer would think are good for that certain provider. Then if the provider is interested they make some sort of arrangements to get the phones. But if the providers want a certain "something" added on or taken off the phone. The manufacturer usually does it (depending on the relationship between the manufacturer and provider.) For example have you noticed some times like of Cingular and T-Mobile get the same phone, and the "wap" button usually has a "i" icon for Cingular and for T-Mobile it has sometimes a "t". Well from what I seen & been told all phones comes with a default "i" icon but like T-Mobile they most likely ask the manu...

I think cause Cingular doesn't have a internet name like T-Mobile. T-Mobile uses T-Zones, and AT&T Wireless uses M-Mode. Both of these carriers have their internet icon put on the phones. Verizon uses the "i" icon too.

😁 I know. I think T-Mobile has the best internet prices for T-Zones and T-Mobile Internet. T-Zones costs $4.99 for Unlimited Basic Wap internet, and 9.99 for the Corporate T-Zones Internet. But also, $19.99 for T-Mobile Unlimited Internet which doesn't go by Megabyte usage, but its use it all you want for one set price, just like a dinner buffet, no limits. Cingular goes by Megabyte usage. I think that sucks cause you can go over without even knowing. I'd rather "GET MORE"!

Couple things... For $19.99 Cingular not only gives you unlimited internet but also throws in 200 MMS and 1500SMS w/ the MEdia Works...

Also, apparently you are the only people who have not seen the jack logo on the internet button on most models... in fact I think the "i" is only relative to the Samsung...

It's always a little of both, and it varies by carrier.

The very largest and most influential carriers in the world can make pretty major, detailed demands about phone design, that the manufacturers must adhere to those if they want to sell to those carriers.

The best example is NTT DoCoMo in Japan. They determine nearly everything about every phone. All phones in a DoCoMo series - regardless of manufacturer - will have the same exact base feature set, with only a feature or two extra to differentiate them (and styling differences.) DoCoMo doesn't even let manufacturers put their logo anywhere on the phone.

That's an extreme example, but you do see similar things to some degree with other carriers. Good examples are Vodafone and Ver...
