I think you have to go into wifi settings and make sure UMA has priority over GSM... then you shoulb be just fine.

Sounds to me you are starting it manually on UMA then it is switching back to GSM becuase that is set to the highest priority in your settings.

I have a similar problem. I went to Manage connections,Mobile Network Options, looked under Connection Preference and high light Wi-Fi Preferred. It is still not perfect but I hope this helps.

Just a question, are you using the T-Mobile branded router or your own?

I live in a 5-bar zone, and when I was using my own router, the towers and UMA would fight over the connection. When I got one of the T-Mobile branded ones it helped out quite a bit, I dont remember the last time I dropped a UMA call.

Not sure if thats a semi-sarcastic responce, however go ahead and get a T-Mobile branded router as it will most likely fix your issues. Its not supposedly better, it just IS better.

I use my own router because Verizon also is my cable company. I have heard that T-Mobile is better for the phone but I am stuck with Verizon's router. It is not perfect but it works pretty good.

T-Mobile gives you the router so it is hard to complain. I do but no one cares. some are even happy!

I have hotspot@home also. I drop calls all the time and sometimes it doesn't even start on the wifi. I have spoken to reps done all kinds of updates with them. The wifi is set to be primary. I have their router and have returned my phone for another and am still having trouble. I am getting my home phone back on saturday and stopping hotspot. Hotspot is a great idea and I will probably get it back when all the bugs are worked out, but right now I am sick of it. I got a huge bill the first month and they were going to credit it back but, before he got to do that... you guessed it I dropped the call! So when I called back the guy would only put 300 min. extra on my acct in case we went over and told me to keep watching the phone when we talked...

well the T-mobile branded router will help you out, but another great benefit to having the t-mobile branded router is that if you ever have a problem like this or anything to the same extent you can always call up tec. support and they can trouble shoot your router and usually get you a fix or answer over the phone. they can not do that without the branded router though.

I use Verizon's router because my TV in integrated into the router. I did disconnect my wireless home phone. 2.4ghz and that helped. I now use a wired home phone. All I have heard is that T-Mobile's router works best and it is free. Hard to complain about free!

On the Curve's main menu goto:

Manage Connections--->Mobile Network Options----> (select) Connection prefrence.

Your choices are:
Mobile Network only (EDGE)
Mobile Network Preferred (EGDE then Wifi)
Wifi Only
Wifi Prefered (Wifi then EDGE)

If you are having trouble connectiing to the wifi... just leave it on wifi only and see if it connects....

Later,

This is a know issue with the Curve. If you don't use the T-mobile router it will not transition the calls....it will drop it.

It's not a big deal for me becuase I maily use the UMA at work and at home.

Think about it too.... It's not like you can walk down the street and it will just pick up some random unsecure wifi.... and switch back and fourth...

On the unsecure wifi you still have to set each one up the first time becuase you can "bounce" off of it.

Just a minor minus in leiu of all the pluses.

But your situation will be fixed if you use a Tmo router.... The curve is the only one with this issue...

Hello. I just recently got a curve with tmo. I use my own router and have had no problems so far (although its only been a day. My router had a little problem and I noticed my phone picked up an unsecure network and connected automatically. I made phone calls and tested it out. Even had my old verizon number ported over with the unsecure network. Anyways mine works great guys! Hate to sound like I'm rubbing it in, but I'm just stating my experiences thus far. I'll post again in a couple of weeks and let you guys know if I'm still sailing smoothly.
