Could T-Mobile be bypassing EDGE and thinking about UMTS?

Reportedly, T-Mobile USA is thinking about UMTS. Here is a report on this:

I knew there was a reason we wern't jumping into edge right away...I wonder if it's possible, too we may be looking at VoIP too...I heard that too from the grapevine.

Or, how about VoIP over Wi-Max? Bypassing 3G all together.

wouldn't that be something? (I doubt it, though)...I have a feeling T-Mobile is going to come out with a very clever way to introduce high speed data pretty quickly and effeciently. At the same time, not driving costs out the roof. Well, I hope so anyway. I wonder if there's any possibility of using our existing hotspots to our advantage going n/w with high speed data?

recently everybody knows Tmo will postpone UMTS at least 2 years
I think they have to finish up the most basic issue: coverage â˜šī¸
