I have no idea. Even though AT&T has UMTS already, its not really out there, yet. They have it launched already, with "1" phone to support it, but they don't advertise it. T-Mobile probably wants to launch something that they know will bring in money, unlike AT&T/Cingular's UMTS they have spend alot of money for it, but most manufacturres are not interested in UMTS yet, accept overseas where they are more advanced at technology than the United States. When T-Mobile launches EDGE, people will buy the phones, cause T-Mobile will start bringing out EDGE phones, unlike UMTS its not that serious YET! Maybe once EDGE gets played out, just like GPRS is now.

I think Tmo US is successful on stragegy
because they grabbed ME for that long, and now I am out of contract, I can quit ANYTIME without ETF, but I'd stay because I am considering EDGE for better streaming audio (I'll setup shoutcast-ogg server at home, then I can stream my own music, using remote access from pda to control winamp)
or even streaming 3gpp TV from home to cellphone

both are great idea for EDGE
with HSDPA, I can simply pass on HDD mp3 player, simply dl audio files directly from home like regular FTP to my pda

😁 Do you listen to SHOUTCAST 24/7/365? LOL! I am on contract as of yesterday, since I signed up for the $45.99 1000 minutes plan with Unlimited Nights and Weekend minutes! Their customer care is the best, they helped me out alot. They go the extra mile just to help out their customer!

I listen to internet radio from HK, and WFUV (the finest public radio, too bad Brooklyn has no reception at all, thanks T-Mobile to bring it back)
listening internet radios on the road like regular walkman is a BIG FUN! only mobile internet radio listener can experience that
