T-Mobile gets shut out at the upcoming spectrum auction?

I mean T-Mo is already admitted to being at least 2 years behind other carriers regarding 3G rollout. Plus the horrible coverage and expiring roaming agreements with Cingular. The price dropping and giveaways didn't work for ATTWS, so how's it going to work for T-Mobile?

I just don't see T-Mobile having the money to compete with Cingular, Verizon, or Sprint for spectrum.

Feel free to wade in.....if it's not to deep.

I wouldn't count T-Mo out just yet, they are the fastest growing (In terms of rate not raw numbers) mobile phone provider in the U.S. Additionally they just became profitable as of Q1 2004. I have also read somewhere, but can't currently confirm, that they have set aside reserves in axcess of $2 Billion specifically for spectrum acquisition. I think it unlikely they will get shut out in the current and upcoming auctions.

Also with the recent mergers, sprextel and cingular are not expected to make large bids, whichleaves vzw and tmo bidding for spectrum. Also, after merging, they probably couldn't afford it anyway.

You are probably right:
