Possibly Having to Leave T-Mobile

I am currently living in an area with T-Mobile coverage, zip 66502, but will be moving to an area without coverage, zip 84714. I've called T-Mobile, and they told me I could cancel my service without paying the early termination fee due to the lack of coverage.

The things is, I don't want to cancel. I'd rather stay with T-Mobile. They have been a great company. Sure their coverage is lacking, and I am sometimes envious that other companies have a wider coverage area and faster data, but that's something I know can be fixed, and for me, T-Mobile is worth the wait.

The only way I know of to stay with them is using the Wi-Fi @home service, but that gets me coverage for a grand total of 300 square feet on a good day. Still, I'll possi...

The only thing I could suggest would be to try the Hotspot@Home service and hope that you can roam off of AT&T or a different local GSM carrier while you're out there. Connect to wifi wherever you can. Most universities have free wifi all over their campus so I wouldn't think it would be a problem. On the other hand, if you start using the majority of your minutes roaming on another company's towers, then you'll get kicked off of the service anyway.

*shrug*

Take it out there and find out. I think the Hotspot@Home service would be a good option if you want to stay with T-Mobile.

On a hunch, I decided to call T-Mobile Customer Care today to check on the status of new towers being built in the area I will be moving to, and I spoke with a rep who was way more than helpful.

She was kind enough to inform me that I could put my account on a 3-month seasonal suspend until such time as I moved permanently to an apartment within the coverage area, something I will probably do instead of cancel my service.

In addition, she also sent out a notice to T-Mobile engineers (I forget what the form was called) to advise of the lack of coverage in the area and to push for a tower within the vicinity that I will be living, something I was sure Customer Care might be able to do, but did not know for sure. She took my physical add...

What school are you going to? I thought the only school in that area was in Cedar City.

Dixie State College - St. George. But I'll be living in 84714 (Beryl) for a few months until i get settled, because right now I'm moving from Manhattan, KS to that area.

Cedar City is about 30-40 miles away from St. George, as you probably know. Thanks for the response! 🙂

Well, if you get broadband internet, you'll at least be able to use your phone at your house. If it were me, I'd just switch carriers.

we will be launching our talk forever solution soon. you might be able to do that, the only problem is it is a service that is kind of like vonage. its going to probably be like 10 dollars a month for existing customers, the only downside is it will run off of a existing dsl or cable internet and its a fixed land line so you cant take it out and about with you.

I think that it is at least a little funny that a customer that is really happy with Tmo still comments how bad thier service is

ATT will not be an option either, and to be honest you may have to join the cult in this area.

Well, I like to acknowledge the ups and downs of every wireless company, regardless of what company it is. T-Mobile has everything I could ever want from a wireless carrier, and their service is great, I just happen to be moving to an area where they don't cover.

Having to wait a few more seconds for a web page to load on my T-Mobile 2G Curve is a lot better than paying up the nose with Verizon. But then Verizon has better coverage, higher speeds, and more customers, just like AT&T, who has had 3G for years.

Sprint has arguably the fastest data speeds, but horrible customer service.

Alltel (now a part of Verizon) has the best coverage, faster data speeds, and My Circle (which really does nothing for me. myFaves keeps me happy e...
