What is T-Mobile's policy on upgrading phones?? I hear of people that say that they can go to T Mobile and get a new phone whenever they want without having to pay full retail price, and some say they have to extend their contract, or that it was extended without them knowing. Can anyone clear this up for me? Is T Mobile very lenient with upgrading phones early or is it that these people just don't what they are talking about?? 😕 🙄

In order to get a discount for a phone that you want to upgrade to, you must not have upgraded your phone through T-Mobile for 11 months. Its called 11 month rule. If you go out and buy a phone from a Indirect dealer, you won't have to wait 11 months for an upgraded phone price.

Here is an example:
If you signed up for service on June 2004, you can not get a discount for a phone until April or May. So whenever month you got signed up with T-Mobile, u can not upgrade for the next 11 months.

Actually, any customer that has 30 days of active service or more is eligible to upgrade (they just wont get the maximum discount until 11 months on a qualified plan). However, if you decide to upgrade early you now must wait 11 months and be on a qualified plan the entire time to get the best pricing possible. Contracts of 12 months are always required to get a discount. (FYI- if you upgrade early, and then call back less than 30 days from that upgrade to order once again, you will not have any discount at all. Full retail will be charged but you wont start your 11 months over again. It will remain a running time from the previous order). Hope this all makes sense. If not, call Customer Care. 😉

Thanks guys 🙂 Ok...so what if you do happen to come in before the 11 months?? Is T Mobile obligated to charge you full retail or do you have the option of extending your contract to get a deal even before the 11 months?? Thanks in advance!

My contract with T-Mobile today. I called T-Mobile
three days ago, asking them if they offer an attractive discount for Motorola V180. The customer rep. told me that phone will cost me 69.99, because my plan is basic plus ($29.99). For plan $39.99, V180 would cost $19.99. (The list price is $119.99, minus $100 discount). I told him that I intend to upgrade to the $49.99 family plan. But, he insisted on the $69.99 price tag for V180.

The customer rep. then refered me to an account specialist, who quoted me $49.99 for V180. He was very impatient, saying "the choice is yours, it's up to you ...". I promptly stopped talking with him.

Well, I am not that thrilled with T-Mobile in the first place. Their signals were weak in Austin area. I ...

Well, I'll give you the truthful answer as to why phone pricing is the way it is with any carrier following their set guidelines.

Our upgrade program allows our customers to get the same as new pricing once every 11 months (since your last discounted handset)on a qualifying pricing plan ($39.99 or higher for single line or $69.99 for family-time). Also, keep in mind that as advertised on the website, if you read the terms under that instant rebate it says "cost with new activation on a qualifying pricing plan...cost of activation is $35 per line" So, $35+$19.99=54.99. $49.99 is still less. Also, remember any carrier you go to has activation fee's, too.

A $29.99 plan is not a qualifying pricing plan, and this is why: Every customer sta...

also, I forgot one thing...any phone that through our coroprate upgrade program (customer care corporate retail store) that we do not say has a mail in rebate-you can get it with no contract extention either. also, if you are off of contract, you can check around at some indirect dealers, and they may have better pricing on the phones as well...do a little comparison shopping.
Also, we don't have "upgrade" fee's...you're just buying the phone.

Phone upgrade: Getting a new customer with $29.99 plan, the carrier is willing to provide phones free. Keeping the customer, the carrier is not willing to provide phone free. Something is wrong here, as the customer can carry the phone number and switch to another carrier.

Besides, I am upgrading to a $49.99, and T-Mobile still unwilling to at least provide a low end phone (Motorola V180) free. The CSR is not helpful at all, he was simply indifferent.

T-Mobile quality: In my area, the signal was simply too weak. My office is on the top floor of a three-story building, and signal strength had never been more than 3-bar (out of 5-bar). I had to walk clost to office windows to make a better conversation with my home. We called friends...
