Tmobile pre-paid service (or is it my phone?)

Hi,
I currently have Tmobile pre-paid service, since Jan 2007. I have a Nokia 6030 phone which I got new. I don't use the phone much, just for calls to home and to work. Phone (and service) had been working great, until about 2 months ago:

1. The phone has no service in places were service should be available (i.e. my room, which is 4 blocks away from a Tmobile Tower.)
2. Sometimes when I do have service, I can't make calls because of "Error in Connection".

Is it my phone, or is it the Tmobile service? I used to sell Verizon Wireless/Sprint PCS at Radioshack a few years ago, and I know those to companies didn't allocate the same resources as they did with Post-paid services (features, network coverage areas, limited CSA...

You are correct about the allocation of reception to prepaid and Flex N class. Those who have contracts will get better reception. You're obviously someone who rarely uses a cell phone if your yearly spending is only about $20 a month. I would suggest 2 options:

1) Call t-mobile directly and see if there's any humanly way possible to get on one of t-mobile's discontinued $19.99 plans. I've helped some customers get them when another t-mobile dealer swindled them away from it to do an upgrade or something, but since you're only a prepaid customer, I'd say it's a 25% chance they'll do it, but it's worth a shot.

2) See if someone you know that you trust and they trust you is on a t-mobile family plan already because it would only be $9.99...

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.

I used to have that $19.99 plan, and 60 miniutes a month is way too little, even for me. I probably use about 150 to 200 minutes a month, and by buying $100 prepaid cards 2-3 times a year, I get about 160-200 minutes a month, and my monthly average comes out to about $20 a month. That $19.99 plan doesn't include taxes/fees, so the bill was actually $27 a month.

I guess I will have to piggyback on my sis's account, but she's often over her limit (5-10 minutes) and to upgrade her plan to include me will also cost me more as well.

It could be your phone ask your sister to borrow her phone next time she is over at your place. Pop your sim in her phone and see if you get coverage. If you do then you need a new phone. If its the same thing then I would call Tmobile and tell them they might have a tower out and haven't gotten around to fixing it.

If its the phone just got to target and get a new one for like $30 or $40.
