I'm currently at Alltel, but I have been at Nextel ATT, Sprint, Cingular and back to Alltel .. but never T-Mobile im going to be going to college in Akron Ohio were coverage is good with all, but for some reason Cingular freaks me out because they have to much power now and can do whatever they please ...
T-Mobile seems like a good bet with right priced phones should I go with T-Mobile or if not Alltel with what other carrier??
Thanks
...
go for it man... I guarantee Tmob is a lot better than alltel. At least take the 14 day trial period.
...
Looks like coverage is excellent there, and pretty good in Ohio in general. They only require one year contracts too, instead of 2 like most carriers.
...
give them 14 days
once you like it, get Internet option on my t-mobile
listening WFUV over T-Mobile is pretty cool, especially weekends (1000s of welcome, Ceol na nGael, Thistle and Shamrock)
all you need is: Internet option (19.99), a bt phone, a pocket pc, and a headphones
...
So even though TMOB only runs on the 1900 band and can have tri band phone with 850 will it be as good if not better then cingular???
...
yes
even my T637 is Cingular version, runs GSM 850/1800/1900
ANY phone supports GSM 1900 can be used on T

TMobile has nowhere NEAR the coverage of Cingular... check their maps and its blatantly obvious. In building coverage on TMobile will suffer unless the area is saturated with 1900 mHz. Cingy's use of both US GSM bands makes for much more efficient network use.

It's been stated many times and you should pay attention to it that you should get what works best for *you* in your particular situation. I've had VoiceStream/T-Mobile for almost five years and my service works fine in 90% of the places that I go and my indoor coverage is just fine 90% of the time. 850 is way overhyped as if it's going to give you coverage everywhere and that it's always going to give you the best coverage. The...

And you got YOUR degree in radio frequency dynamics from WHERE?
...
They only use 850 a few places right now anyway. It is not everywhere.
...
Cingular uses 850 in most major metro areas native coverage. Performs better in high construction areas than 1900. 1900 will travel better in rural areas.
...
emm...no, not so much...I think you got that turned around there, bud. 1900 mhz is used more widely in densely populated areas because it has the inate ability to handle higher traffic, has a larger bandwidth, better sound quality, and a higher overall capacity. However, it does take more 1900mhz towers to saturate an area. The range of a 1900mhz tower is only about 7 miles.
850mhz is used more in sparsely populated and rural areas because of it's inate ability for spread. Fewer towers make it easier to cover a larger area, and 850, or any lower frequency in general will penetrate better. However, it cannot handle the volume as 1900 can, the sound quality is not as crisp or clear, but when it comes down to it-the coverage will be there. ...

850 is *way* overhyped as if it's the best thing since sliced bread. The real truth of the matter is that tower placement is much more likely to affect what kind of coverage you get.
...
Total BS... any radio guru will tell you, the lower the mHz, the better the construction penetration. Tower placement helps, but proper use of frequency is important as well.

I don't give a tinker's darn about your gun. If a 1900 tower is close enough it won't make *any* difference in the world and in fact you may get better service with the 1900 coverage. I've been in the real world and seen the difference myself. 850 is *way* overrated.

fuzzbear... do your homework. 850 is prime for urban, 1900 is better for rural. 15 years in wireless speaking here my friend. I've been in BOTH worlds!

Don't tell *me* to do my homework when I've experienced both and differing conditions that made the 1900 carrier work better than 850. I suggest *you* do some homework and don't just throw your textbook theories at me. What your textbook says and what reality shows is often different.

I rather have be in my basement w/ 1900 tower a block away, then have a 850 tower 12 blocks away

You have 14 days to find out. Try it and if you don't like it bring the phone back and cancel.

I can tell you from experience, that whatever carrier you go with here in Akron, they will all work well. Go with whatever carrier that has the plan which fits you best. 🙂
...
I choose not to say, otherwise people would accuse me of being biased toward one provider or the other. I am with 2 carriers though in this market. One I work for and the other I play with. I've used each carrier for one reason or another though and can say that I've had no problems with any of them. Believe me when I say that it really depends on which carriers plan suits you best. Coverage here isn't an issue. You might even want to check out a local provider that operates area which has unlimited calling.
...
I am going to go to the Univ. there that is why im moving
What are these local providers??
...
there is a local provider named Northcoast PCS. It's pretty much like MetroPCS or Cricket, but without the data packages. But supposedly the data packages will be available very shortly. www.northcoastpcs.com is the site. It's strictly local. I don't know if you're stuck on campus or if you plan on leaving that general area. But if you don't plan on going much farther than the campus area and around the city then they would probably be fine for you. There is no contract involved.
...
I tell you what, when I was in school I had cricket, and it was just awesome. I think I've heard of northcoastpcs, and I've heard of metropcs. They lack some of the features we take for granted such as data (even though I believe they are coming out with that shortly), but hey I paid like $42/mo and I had unlimited calling, unlimited text, voicemail, all the services like call waiting call fwd, caller id etc, 500 minutes of long distance....never had a problem with coverage in town, no such thing as overage, it was great. I cancelled my cricket subscription because I started to have more travel needs, and it just wasn't working in that aspect, and a normal phone plan was sufficient for me, I don't use thousands and thousands of minutes a mon...
