I live in Charleston, SC. I heard that no one knows when 3G is going to be available down here.

I am curious if anybody knows much about the new Sidekick LX's GPS. I want to know if it has VOICE turn by turn directions??

So far, I've heard from friends who have T-Mobile that the service kind of sucks. They randomly drop calls.

I think the service is very location dependant.

When I lived in Honolulu it was really bad. I constanly dropped calls and hit "black spots". However when traveling on buisness to Tampa, Pensacola, LA, Denver, Tulsa, and Chicago, I had great coverage and no quality issues at all.

Here is St Louis it's pretty good as long as you stay in the metro area. You get on the out-skirts and there are a few dead zones. 3G is non-existant.

Surprisingly I have been on fishing trips in the boonies and I have been the only one with a signal. I was roaming, but the AT&T guys had nothing.

I will also say that my customer service experience has been first rate. Even when they make mistakes, they admit it and will compensate you in some small ...

Can't speak about the sidekick but here's a video with the HTC G1 and a 3G connection, it's obviously not perfect.

But as the other post said TMO has great CS and where they do have coverage it's pretty good. Although I experience that wind sound the most when talking to people on TMO, you know where their voice just drops and it sounds almost like a gust of wind blowing across the mic. I've heard it's pretty common in TMO fringe areas.
As for their 3G expansion...who knows. 😕 I might of more seriously considered going back to TMO but it's been over a year and still no 3G expansion in my area, they made it about a mile away and that seems to be it.
If your looking for reliable GPS and...

I was rather suprised by it too. I was roaming on some rural GSM provider and the guys with ATT had no service.

Yeah, coverage with any carrier varies, you need to check each carrier's coverage maps for your needs. T-Mobile is perfect for me in the Atlanta area. I've been in plenty of areas where I didn't have service but another carrier did, but I've been in just as many areas where I had service and Verizon and AT&T didn't, like my parents' house near Savannah. Like I said, check your area, you may be surprised.

it may be late, as only Fort Jackson will be covered in Q3
by my experience in NYC, it's very good when stationery, but it has hand-off issue (3G>EDGE>3G) when travelling on I95

When I had T-Mobile I found it worked most everywhere I needed it to. The exception is my wife's place of employment, which is why we're on Sprint...the only company that works in the building.

Customer Service at T-Mobile blows everyone else away. If they ever change coverage in that one spot I wouldn't hesitate to go back.
