Simple solution. Buy it unlocked on Ebay...then you can use it on T-Mobile if they don't come out with it. Or did you want them to subsidize some of it for you?

I like the subsidizing concept, but my biggest lack of comfort comes from not know much about network compatibility and unlocked phones.

Very valid concern. Basically, you just have to know what frequency the carrier in question operates in, and what frequencies the phone supports. If unlocked, any carriers sim will work in it. However for instance cingular has a 850/1900 mhz split network in the U.S. and T-Mobile operates (at least right now) in the 1900mhz band only with VERY few spots for 850mhz pocket roaming. So, if you take for example our V300 which is a tri-band (900/1800/1900) motorola phone, unlock it and stick a cingular sim card in it-the phone will work, but only in the portio...

Well, as far as voice service, I just meant unlocked phones don't require any additional settings or updates for them to work. Dropped calls and breaks in service could be anything from the phone itself to network problems, I would definately consider that it is an unbranded unlocked phone, but I wouldn't say that's the only contributing factor.

To compare notes though, I have an unlocked, unbranded panasonic GD-55 (The phone that is just as small as a matchbox, but the non-color version) , and I don't typically use it anymore, but for some things I do...It doesn't get the strongest signal ever, but it didn't show signal in those places either my other branded phones would. I guess you could say it was more accurate.

I have had sever...

Don't look like t -mo will have this one. It 3G which mean edge enabled. Am I wrong or is t mo still waiting on edge?

Doesn't the network specs say it's UMTS not EDGE?

Yes but 3G is a higher form, I can almost promise that it works on edge.

EDGE is not 3G, EDGE is 2.5G. UMTS is alot faster than EDGE. UMTS is only available in select cities though.
