T-Mobile's Internet speed

enigmatl

Mar 13, 2005, 6:10 PM
T-Mobile seems like a cool company and I have considered signing with them before. Only thing I don't know is do they have any high speed wireless internet (besides hotspots in resturants and airports)? Only phones I ever see list GPRS as their data connectivity. No Edge (and of course no EV-DO since that's not for GSM). Does T-mobile have anything planned to compete with the big 3 on internet speed?

Give it up, guy, it's acquired the status of urban legend and no amount of reality or truth is going to make people give it up--"everybody knows" trumps empirical evidence every time... Welcome to America, leave your brain at the door... 🙄

Harlan Ellison wrote an essay on the subject of gullibility and "everyone knows," used an example of an acquaintance who insisted that California was going to solve a drought problem by towing icebergs from the Arctic--his description of himself waxing apoplectic over the ridiculousness of the entire concept is absolutely priceless. This is why I love the Straight Dope message boards--as soon as someone posts some morsel of tripe about fifty people leap out of the woodwork demanding a cite for the information. The chowderheads tend to migrate to more credulous climes and the intellectual atmosphere remains fairly unsullied over there... The flame wars tend to be pretty entertaining, too...

Yep, I'd say he's the undisputed king of sardonic humor by a long country mile... I have some fairly esoteric stuff of his, mostly because I used to live in Cali and would vist A Change of Hobbit in LA regularly--he and the proprietor are friends and he wrote several stories while sitting in the front window of the store.

Who else do you read? I'm partial to Heinlein, Varley, Spider Robinson and Sheri Tepper myself... Skiffy fan? Moi? Ach, guilty as charged... 😎

I'm a huge Ray Bradbury fan. I love Dan Brown. Warren Ellis floats my boat as well (comics). I also love Clancy (don't laugh! I know he's a hack!), J.K. Rowling (you're laughing again), and Susanna Clarke (Jonathan Strange and Mr....

So let me get this straight, you reported as fact a rumor that somebody else on another forum stated as a truth, then took exception when you were called on spreading misinformation? Please, if you can't post a direct link to a reputable site (NOT a message forum!) which substantiates your information, please do NOT post it! There's a surfeit of BS in the cyber-world, let's not let it get any deeper here, okay? 🙄
