Reception

carlsberg

Aug 14, 2009, 1:43 PM
Got a quick question...

I recently moved and the new place is on the ground floor so I know there will be some reception issues.

What is weird is the signal strength would fluctuate even if I am standing still in one spot.

I called customer service and the rep said something about using the wifi capability on my phone. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks!

it can happen with old sim cards and some samsungs with my experience.

all blackberrys 8120, 8220, 8320, 8520, and 8900 all have wifi for calling. all work well, but you have to have data services with them now.

nokia 6301 and 7510 work well with wifi calling and the samsung t339 is great, low returns with that model.

wifi calling does work really well, but can still drop calls if you dont have a t-mobile router or using too much bandwith on your computer, otherwise it is usually flawless.

You just have to have a UMA enabled phone.
Samsungs: t409, t339, t739 katalyst
Nokias: 6086, 7510, 6301
Blackberries: 8120, 8220, 8520, 8900
HTC: Shadow (the new one)

I think I got them all...
With these phones you can make phone calls via Wifi. Its called hotspot calling or hotspot @ Home, and it was called Talk Forever at one brief point. It works great. You can be in an area with zero service, but if there's wifi, bam, full service. Even works internationally!

does it work with an unlocked wifi capable phone or it has to be the t-mobile branded ones?

thanks!

It has to be from t-mobile, because it is simply not a wi-fi phone you need. it is UMA. a chip that allows you to use wi-fi frequencies fo calling.
