I have been with T-MO for almost 5 years, am currently out of contract, and have the Curve 8320. I would like to upgrade to the Curve 8900, but don't want to sign a 2 year contract. Is the best deal the upgrade price on the website w/ the 2 yr contract, or if I get to the saves dept. with the intent to cancel service, can I get the 8900 cheaper and/or on a shorter contract?

you MAY get it cheaper.. maybe 129.99 instead of the 149.99 and they may even waive the upgrade fee but you will still have to pay shipping and get a two year contract.. the saves department is not about giving things out with contract - you have to think about it in business sense... the only way you are getting a discounted handset is if you agree to stay with the company, which is the reason for the contract to begin with.. but if you have been with tmobile for five years already and they have fulfilled your cell needs why are you scared of the contract? just asking out of general curiosity.

I am not scared of signing a contract, I was just kind of holding out in case a BB more advanced than the 8900 came out, which I would think would happen in the next 2 years, and when it did, I wanted to be able to get it at the best price.

So to me it sounds like you're trying to get a better deal than the rest of the customers at T-Mobile. Doesn't seem fair to me. If you like the service and you want a new phone why not just play by the rules? It's better than carrier hopping...trust me.

sign a one year contract. that is still an option for full discount customers. instead of being 149.99 + 18 it would be 199.99 + 18... still cheaper than 499.99. you get your discount at 11 months on a one year contract, instead of 22 months on a two year..

Yeah, I would suggest the same thing. Also, if you're always waiting for the next upgrade, you will be waiting forever. New Blackberries (and all phones for that matter) are constantly being upgraded. The Driftwood (check out www.tmonews.com) is the 3G Blackberry rumored to be heading T-Mobile's way in 2010.
