Hello! I'm a long-time lurker and first time poster - so please be gentle with me! lol. Here's my situation and question.
I'm a Flex-Pay Annual customer (8 months into a 2 year contract). I have two lines, both Blackberry devices. I want to add a third line (just a normal voice line).
I was told two weeks ago in my local store that I could migrate to the Even More plan and stay under contract and add a third line for 10 bucks more to share the minutes on my existing plan.
However, when I returned to the store yesterday to do just that I was told that a Flex-Pay customer is only allowed to have two lines. She said I might could add a third line but it would have to be an Even More Plus (no contract and full cost equipment) pl...

Yes, flexpay annual is limited to 2 lines. T-Mobile is currently testing a program to re-run credit after 1 year of service and upon approval convert flexpay accounts to postpaid, but its currently testing only in Georgia. If the program works out well, it will go nationwide. For now though you are limited to 2 lines on contract.
Now just to clarify, flexpay annual customers are customers who, before flexpay, would need to pay a security deposit for every line of service. So unless your credit has improved, if you were looking at carriers who charge security deposits, you would need 3 deposits of $250+ per line. If you've got that kinda cash, then have at it, but I'd go the even more plus route myself. The plans are cheaper too w/o contract...

You should be able to convert over to the even more plus plan and add the 3rd line. the difference in the cost of the plan would more than offset the cost of the phone, which you should be eligible to spread out over 20 monthly payments. now, this is a no contract plan, so you wouldnt be eligible for upgrades, but I have usually found that the savings over the life of the plan justify the conversion, especially if you are just looking for a phone line for the 3rd, and not a high end data device. you would have to pay the migration fees (70 dollars, 35 for each line if you are still in contract) but that would still be much less than any deposit you would be required to pay elsewhere.

No, he can't add another line to his existing account. 2 lines is the max for flexpay w/ contract.

sorry, was actually suggesting that he convert over to the even more plus with the no contract. would he not then be able to add the third line like a flexpay monthly?

Unfortunately not. The line limit is based upon credit. The account type determines these rules. A FP annual contract customer who converts to EM+ still only has a 2 line limit, at least for now. I know that there is a team working on new programs that will help out people in these situations. The test pilot program T-Mobile is running in Georgia would allow customers who have been on FP for a year to convert to regular postpaid after rerunning credit and qualifying that way. Credit regulations only give so much wiggle room, but T-Mobile is working on ways to allow customers as to do as much as they can, but it is an ongoing process.

Thanks everybody for the advice and info. I appreciate it.

No prob. Helps to ask questions in a civil manner, not to curse and rant nonsense like some other posters in this forum. 😉
