Honestly, in my opinion, Motorola just has a track record of glitches and bugs, if you like moto that's cool, i'm just sayin if you wanted to keep the price $350 or lower, I personally would look at somethin like the Nokia 6230, I played with this phone and OMG! Between the E398 and that, I would so go for the Nokia. I played with the 398 and it was cool and all but still a motorola. it's kind of moto's version of the Sony ericsson T610 but with expandable memory. I hope that gives you an idea at least. good luck 😁

Cool, If you like moto than by all means, the 398 is a cool phone, I just haven't had good experiences with all my moto's(v300, v600, v551, V3, v180, v220 are all the ones I've had in the last 6-9 months)

Since I've gotten into wireless data, I on average have been taking 2-3 calls a day just from people who have bought 6230's unlocked and just need some settings etc...every single time say they love em.

I have an unlocked 6230. The browser is very quick (maybe I'm using EDGE since I'm in CA) - but the reception is not as good as other Nokias I've had. It tend to drop a weak signal. No one seems to know whether a locked phone with T-Mobile firmware is more likely to hols onto a weak signal.

Actually, from my experience, I haven't found that to be a factor at all in the service quality. It mostly has to do with where you are and whats around you. It's actually kind of funny the things that can disrupt a gsm signal. You'd be surprised 🙂

so basically everyone is saying 6230 over the E398...how is the 6230 w/ reception and is the screen nice?...it looks a little small...

also it says it doesnt have a 2.5mm headset jack...does it have any headset jack, it must for the mp3 player?...

also can u play the mp3's through the earpiece?...

i would guess so considering it has speakerphone....hows the speakerphone?

hows the camera quality compared to a v300?

one more question...my friend has the 3586i...its not very good but my question is, is the software the same for the 6230 as it is with that phone?

thanks NICK

The 6230 has not been reported in my area as having bad reception. Nokias in general have a good rating on antenna strength. especially for GSM. The screen is great, have no complaints. perfect size for a candy bar style phone in my opinion. The headset is not 2.5mm but it has bluetooth so a bt headset works great for it. I use the HS850 and have no complaints. i think for you to make a good decision will all depend on what YOU like and what YOU want. The software is just like most Nokia phones. The interface is easy to use and fast acting menus. Hope that helps a little

when u go to read txt messages do they have to load or do they come up instanly?

Instant, The only reason text messages would take time to load is if the service was with Sprint, they use short mail which is so laggin compared to sms from carriers like T-Mobile or Cingular. Even VZW has better sms than sprint (in my opinion) You said your friend has a 3587i right? I am pretty sure that it is for sprint, which would make it a drag to text on. All you have to do when you get an unlicked 6230 is do an ota system configuration which I can do for you. Simple and works great 🙂

Speaking of which, does anyone know what the heck happened with the V600? We were told it's permanently been removed from all upgrade programs and they were going to sell them until inventory ran out and thats it. No word on the 635 though, but that seems to be a popular rumor??
