So you can either pay $529 and the monthly fee or $179 and sign a 2 year agreement at the normal monthly fee. I guess you are able to move to a different carrier?

Firstly, all Nexus One are carrier unlocked out of the box, whether it is the full price or the 2 yr contract subsudized version... so the phone can be moved to any carrier that uses a SIM card, only issue is the 3G Radios only work on T-Mo in the USA, they won't on AT&T, but then again if you want AT&T with a Nexus One you could/should/would just buy the AT&T version.

Anyways, as for being free and clear to do whatever you want, the 529 price lets you do just that. That is the retail price, and you make no committment to use that phone with any carrier or even use it with phone services at all.
