Cliq XT questions

Hello everybody,

First off, I just wanted to say I lurked here for 1.5 years when I worked for TMobile. I was a customer of Voicestream when it first came around her in CT, then they moved onto TMobile...and the rest is history.

Anyway, enough of that. When I worked for TMobile, I got the G1 when it 1st was released. I loved the phone. I kept it after I left, and finally, my girlfriend and I decided we would splurge and get new phones. She was never a smart phone girl, but I talked her into it.

I always had bad luck with Motorola. When I worked at the store, I would give my honest opinions and tell of my past experiences with Motorola. I went through 8 Razrs through warranty exchanges before working there. While I worked there, I was doing warranty exchanges for them everyday. The constant freezing, white screening, features not working and customers had to shut down and restart the phone to work....it just never ended and left a bad taste in my mouth.

Now, I work for a Cable Service provider in CT, and believe it or not, we have many problems with our Cable Modems....but only our Motorola ones 🤣

Anyway, while working at TMobile, I won a MotoZine, and gave it to my gf. I was very surprised at how good it worked. Never froze, music player worked, didn't white screen...all in all, it worked VERY WELL! I wish it didn't.

When we upgraded and got 2 new phones, she went with the Cliq, and went with it's lil brother, the Cliq XT. At 1st, I was impressed. But...the same old demons have snuck up on me. I had to do an exchange within 10days. The 2nd one I got tends to double send SMS/MMS messages. Sometimes, they don't send at all. My music player is awesome....but sometimes, I have to shut it down and restart it to hear anything. Sometimes the bluetooth won't connect and I don't know why.

As for my gf's phone, her voicemails don't always come through (both regular and visual VM. I however haven't experienced that problem). There was a day that her phone wouldn't charge. She was going to go buy a new charger, I told her to shut it off, and turn it on...it worked. Sometimes she takes photos, but they don't save. Most of the time, they do though.

Anyway, regardless of those problems, we can both live with that. I'm not going to go back to my friends at the stores in my market and harrass them to exchange our phones again. I remember when I worked there and people would want an exchange for the most ridiculous things. Not a big deal in my opinion.

Ok...this was a LONG post to get to my point. Our phones came loaded with Android 1.5. I asked the rep we got the phones from if we will be getting an OTA update to a newer version of Android. He said that within a week we would. Well, we haven't. And frankly, I'm not sure if the Cliq/Cliq XT can go beyond 1.5. I mean...heck, my G1 was running 1.6 I believe. The market was sharper, the GPS was LIGHTS OUT compared to the GPS on 1.5 (turn by turn, and the 3D display rather than looking at a blip on a map with no vocal directions).

Does ANYBODY know if the Cliq series of phones can or will be getting any OTA updates of Android? If so, do you happen to know how high it can go? Also, does anybody know if it's possible to go online and load it myself rather than wait for TMobile to send it?

I apologize for the long winded post. As I stated, this is my very 1st post on this site, as I always read and kept up to date with every service provider, and manufacturer there was when I worked. It is just something I've always done being that I've been in sales for 15 years and I felt that knowing your competitor as well as you know your own is a very important thing and I loved when I heard a customer tell me how impressed they were when I knew the answer rather than give a "Deer in the headlights" look and fumbled with a BS answer.

So, I will thank anybody and everybody in advance for any replies, and I look forward to posting on here more often now (I'm a mod on a Mixed Martial Arts website, so you don't have to worry about me trolling or posting junk).

Thank you everybody! I hope I can get some answers....oh, and I apologize once again for this LONG POST!!!

Oh, really quickly, I know a few of my old co-workers read this site, but most of them are either spread out in different stores, or no longer with the company.

I won't say my name, but I'll drop a few hints.

-I worked at a mall in "Dirty Water" in CT, where you really needed a pair of "Brass" ones to work there, and my initials are R.C.

-When I left, I got along very well with all of my co-workers and assistant/store managers. I only left for more $$$ and the temptation of having regular office hrs and holidays off, but I got the BIG HOSE (a little tip, the grass isn't always greener and when you work for a private company, they tend to use/screw people much more than a structured, large company with a "real" HR that will stick...

On Motorola's roadmap they have both phones scheduled to be updated to 2.1 in Q2. Q2 is almost over, so I hope they stay true...........
