sk2 question
I know if u buy a SK2 from t-mobile you have to get the $20 plan with it...
but.....if u buy it from an indirect dealer and put ur current sim card in it, will the phone work w/o the sk2 data plan?
...
I've put my SIM into one and used it for voice calls (for test purposes). It didn't seem to give me any problems, and I don't have a data plan on my line . . .

sure, it will work as a phone just fine...without the sidekick part of the plan, no data such as e-mail/internet/storage will be functional. If you do get it, you'll have to bypass the "activation" screen by pressing menu + L simeltaneously. 🙂

You also wont get unlim text+IM or Web.You'll be able to text but you'll have 2 pay

Also, the $20 pays for Danger to store your information on their server. The Sidekick has no real "internal" memory. If you remove your SIM card or do a master reset, you will lose all information saved in the unit (w/the plan the SK2 syncs w/the servers and downloads your stored info). So, beware!

I thought that it had 16 mb of flash memory. My understanding is that flash is not volatile and that it does not need a power source to be maintained.
Now I'm confused?! Could someone clarify further on this? I really don't know much about sidekicks, but if it is flash memory then disconnecting the battery shouldn't effect it.

Anything that is stored on the "desktop" or "desktop interface" is stored on the danger server with the exception (and I'm not 100% on this one) of your pics. I know your contacts, calendar, addressbook, notes etc...would all be erased with a power loss or reset without sidekick service. Also, if you have numbers stored on your sim card prior to putting it in your sidekick, those would not be erased, you'd just have to go back in and retreive them all over again from your sim.
