Stupid dealer tricks
Smart Access customer calls in with a suspension, I advise him it's due to a recent upgrade request from his MyTMobile account. He says he went to a dealer (doesn't know if direct or indirect and couldn't give me enough info to figure it out, but draw your own conclusions) and they told him his new phone would cost 100.00, which he paid to them. Then they ask for his MyTMobile password, log in to his account and order a 170.00 phone--no payment to the account, and of course he suspends as soon as the charges hit the account. So the guy is sitting there with a new phone he paid almost 300.00 for, apparently, and a dealer is spending 100.00 for doing nothing more th...

The way I figure it, if I'm working with a dealer or with T-Mobile directly, I shouldn't have to ever give my password. They should always have my info and ask me for verfication of myself, something like zip code or last four digits of social. That should be enough to identify me.

There are, of course, a lot of shifty dealers out there that are very capable of doing someething like this - but on...

And I considered that, but this guy was honestly puzzled and wasn't exhibiting any of the usual behaviors of the credit seeker. I did tell him he could still return the phone for credit, but he said he likes it and would rather not go through the hassle if he doesn't have too--was actually okay about having the price misrepresented by 70.00 too. The only thing he was pissed about was the 100.00 cash he handed the dealer, and he just said he was going to go settle it himself.
