looking for a new phone... old(er) than that Voicestream guy...

ok..
old Powerstream customer from '96 here..(no my phone's not that old) I have a Nokia 3650 that's bit the dust (my fault) what's a new and exciting replacement? I need bluetooth and some pda facilities... What's the deal with unlocked phones.. will they work with my sim chip? Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Yes, an unlocked phone will work with your SIM card, as long it has the 1900MHz band on the phone. You could get a Quad-band phone, so you will be able to travel the globe using the same phone as long as you have an UNLOCKED phone. This means that the phone will accept any GSM carriers SIM card.

If you're familiar with nokias and are thinking about getting an unlocked phone, the 6600 series is terriffic, or possible even the 6230. Possibly you could look at the 9300, or 9500 for more pda type options. Of the phones we're currently carrying, depending on how much you will need it for, the V330 MOT has a lot of the bells and whistles. Standard motorola software, nothing like nokias symbian OS. however, the bluetooth on the device is pretty user friendly, and a good way to sync to your computer is to download the software, and if you don't already have one get a BT hub from an electronics store (they're like $20-$30) and pair the 2 devices that way. The phone also has speaker phone, video capabilities, and is quad band.

Didn't voicestream used to be called Omnipoint? I've never heard of powerstream. Why did T-Mobile change their name so much? 😕

Omnipoint was absorbed by VoiceStream which became T-Mobile in 2002.

Powerstream does not nor has it ever existed as a GSM provider. T-Mobile was formerly VoiceStream, Powertel, DigiPH and Aerial (and perhaps other smaller operators as well.) T-Mobile didn't change their name "so much" if you consider that the large corporation that became T-Mobile was VoiceStream. That's only really one major change. DT bought VoiceStream in 2002. If your looking for a phone with all the bells and whistles, and is pda, and you want to stay with T-Mobile, get the HP iPaq
