A quick question about unlocked phones w/ Tmobile

My friend has T-Mobile and would like to use an unlocked Sony T630.

Question: I've heard if he puts his sim card in the unlocked phone, voice services will be fine, but data (texts, specifically) won't work... is this true?

What are the downsides to using an unlocked phone? I understand that they won't be able to be serviced by T-Mobile, I'm more interested in functionality issues.

Thanks in advance.

While this is NOT always the case, unlocked phones just do not perform as strongly as they could if they were picked up and branded by a carrier. Plus, even though the carrier ca...
