SIM card issue

I have a Samsung e315 and just received a replacement for a defective unit, but now my stored contacts that I had on my SIM card are all saved as "mobile" numbers when I had categorized them as "home," "work," etc. I can't go back to my old phone because I already sent it back to T-Mobile, so I was wondering how I can change my contacts to show business numbers as work numbers and home numbers as home numbers, and so on. I tried the Edit function when in a contact entry, but that just allows me to change the contact name and phone number, but nothing else.

Am I missing something? I don't want to have to re-enter all my contacts just to have the correct category. Also, I am hoping to upgrade to a better phone like the Razr by early n...

i have the e315 and i switched sims wit my friends e315 to give her ringtones w/ my internet...and i lost all my category icons to (home, mobile,work)...the easiest way to fix that is to go to the home #, click add entry...click home..then type in the phone #..(u have to memorize it for a couple sec to put it in) and then it will save then click edit on the # u just put in and put in the exact same name as what u have in the phone book for that person...then u will have 3 #'s under that name....home,mobile,mobile...delete the mobile thats the home #....its not as hard and complicated as it sounds...

the ringtones if purchased on tzones they will credit ur account...just call up...

That's what I thought I would have to do... It's kind of a pain for me since I have a lot of contacts. Oh well... I will also call to get the credit for the ringtones.

Does anyone know if this will happen if I get a different model of phone? I'm thinking about the Razr or the Samsung i720 or i730 if and when they come out. I don't see the value in a SIM card if this will happen each time. Will getting a USB cable solve this problem? And if so, what is a trustworthy source and what software would I need to transfer my data to my PC so that I can transfer it later to a new phone?

Thanks!

Does that also apply to downloaded games, wallpapers, etc? If the SIM card doesn't serve that purpose, then how do I back up what I pay for? Would I be wishing too much for a universal USB cable that I could buy and then use for a new phone that I purchase later on?

The SIM card can't carry ringtones and wallpapers because it needs to be universal and easily transferred to any phone. Coding for ringtones and games differs from phone model to phone model and therefore it wouldn't make any sense to have them transfer with the SIM.

When you get a warranty exchange phone we resend ringtones, wallpapers and games as a courtesy, but they're lost if you upgrade to another model of handset. I use the analogy that it's like buying custom floor mats for a car that you sell--of course they aren't going to work in your new car...

As for the USB cable, you do know the "U" stands for "universal," right? 😉

I see what you're saying, and I did thankfully get my ringtones sent to me since I did a warranty exchange. I think your analogy is good, but it isn't totally accurate. My guess is that there are certain phone models of the same manufacturer that can use the same ringtones and wallpaper.

Anyway, I guess the lesson is to buy as little as possible (I only had 2 ringtones) in order to customize your phone if you are considering getting a new one in a year or two (unless you like to spend a lot of money on something you will only use for a year or two and then throw away)...

Regardless of whether or not the ringtone will or will not work in another model from the same manufacturer, our web ser...

Backup your sim card with Texet Sim Card Reader PDA. I just bought one on ebay. The seller is in the UK. I paid $10 USD including the shipping. It stores info from 3 sim cards. It's a great thing to have. I'm still learning all the goodies this thing has and does. It seems that sim card readers are big in Europe more so than here in the US.
