3G?

Does anyone know when T-Mobile expects to have 3G services? The last I heard was 2007 for UMTS, but that might get delayed by the FCC?

I would love to be able to have a fast wireless connection (other than WiFi) to check email and do things like get driving directions with my phone (obviously not with any current T-Mobile phones).

They can't release 3G services, cause they don't have the spectrum for it. The FCC is having an auction for spectrum next year, so T-Mobile USA, will be participating in it. Until, 2007 T-Mobile USA, will and cannot launch any 3G services.

Yea, that is true also. That’s the problem with having no 3g spectrum and that’s the problem with Tmobile USA. Hmm what if out of spite, another carrier bids for that spectrum to make Tmobile to overbid for the spectrum or perhaps not able to afford it? Hmm that’s an interesting play. They could put Tmobile USA in humongous trouble to try to compete in the marketplace while other carriers will be getting 3g services soon, especially sooner then 2007.

Some already have spectrum, but will try to be greedy.

yea, but to make Tmobile usa suffer even more, they should do that, becuase if they do, it will make it impossible for Tmobile Usa to compete in the marketplace. thus; DT would be forced to sell them to anyone who would take them, just to get some moneys from them before Tmobile usa starts to go downhill.

atleast thats my opinion.

Stop trying to diss and jync T-Mobile. They will rise. If you want 3G go and tell Nextel, and Sprint to hurry up and fully merge, so that you can benefit from Sprint's CDMA 3G network.

i am not "dissing" or "jinxing" tmobile. i am just saying that they arent looking good right now, especially with many companies going to 3g networks.

sprint is already rolling out ev-do REV O then REV A, then probably ipwireless or wimax. so they are fine with their 3g/4g selections.

tmobile is differnt on the other hand though.

I think what Terry is telling you is it doesn't matter that Tmobile does not have a 3g network in place. The vast majority of cellular users don't give a fig about 3g, let alone know what the hell it is. And as you've been repeatedly told, "IPWireless" isn't the name of the technology. Geeze, you'd think some things would get through that head of yours.

I guess it's not too big of a deal...yet. I haven't seen any convergence devices that really impress me yet. I will wait to see what will be available once Windows Mobile 5.0 starts showing up on phones.

For now, it looks like I will look for a phone with great RF and good build quality. Oh, and bluetooth... Any recommendations? I am thinking about Nokia once some of the new phones come out since a lot of people seem to think they are the best for reception, reliability and voice quality... I am not too impressed with the Samsungs I have seen so far, though. My e315 feels very flimsy and the sound quality is horrible.
