Is it the phone or the network?

I have a question similar to spleisher's post...I have 2 T-Mobile Treo 600s on a family share plan, both are having service issues. I am also trying to determine whether the problem is the phones or the network.

Both phones are warranty replacements. I have owned them for about a year, the replacements are about four months old.

They both get audio distortion, especially when first accessing the network. You hear it whether the calls are cell to cell or cell to landline. Sometimes it is electronic noises, sometimes choppy voice.

We are also having increasingly frequent delays in receiving text messages...sometimes they come through right away, sometimes there can be a 20 minute delay, sometimes they may not arrive for a week.

If its your sim card normally that would be replaced for free. Worst case scenario its $20 for a sim card!

The V600 was a very flawed product. Due to experience I would be more inclined to believe it is the phone not the sim card. If you are happy with T-Mobile service the new V330 and RAZR are worthy replacements.

The reason that a SIM card would be affecting the service you receive is b/c basically, the sim card is what gets the signal to your phone and then what allows you to call out. If your sim card has been damaged in some way (by the phone or by you) then it would be giving you these troubles. What i recommend to all of my customers is to get a new SIM Card...that should settle all of your problems..the sim card would also affect your text messaging ablities as well. basically your phone would be a paperweight if you didnt have a sim card in it. if you have any questions you can email me..its on my contact page. thanks,

Steph

Thanks everyone for your help. I decided to try upgrading the phone/SIM card, since I could return it within 14 days if it did not help. I also gathered info on other carriers just in case the problem was Tmo's network.

I received my Motorola Razr V3 yesterday, popped my old SIM card into the phone...reception and text messaging are perfect.

Tmo's customer service went beyond my expectations in helping resolve this issue. A smartphone technician not only helped diagnose the problem but also offered to call back after the Razr was activated; if the SIM card is OK in the Razr he will send out a replacement Treo under warranty (even though I may not be using it anymore).

Comparing carriers showed Tmo is the best value for me. They c...
