Even if he does, there is still no guarantee it will work in either his home or office. Yes, different phones perform differently, and can sometimes make a difference, and though I have seen on many occasion that difference being able to use the phone in places where other phones wouldn't work.
No legitimate carrier will guarantee it's coverage.

I have been a T-Mobile customer since they were Voicestream/Omnipoint and I think Sprint Spectrum at one point. I have been a pretty loyal and good customer. One of the reasons I liked T-Mobile is for their customer service, GSM network when no one else had a GSM network and mainly ability to use my phone all over the world or at least the places I travel to.
