with the two big mergers and the need for less
cells will tmobile got some of the locations
the others do not need now ????

Thats a good question
...
I would say no.
Reason being: T-Mobile, or any other carrier cannot just come in and take towers. The FCC first off will come through and look at all overlapping markets and say what Sprint Nextel can and cannot have.
After that decision is made, an auction will probably be held. T-Mobile is a GSM carrier...Sprint is CDMA and Nextel is/was iDEN. There are only 2 liscences for each frequency band for each type of network, so even if spectrum becomes available, to whom would it go? It would technically have to be another CDMA carrier. iDEN is a variation of TDMA, but I'm not aware of any carrier still using that as their primary network.
Sprint and Verizon were the big CDMA carriers, Alltel and US Cellular are the two bigger regio...

Well another thing to look at is that Nextel uses 850 MHZ. Not all of Tmobiles phones use this band most of them just offer 900/1800/1900 MHZ. They would have to make changes

Hey bizkitsngravy not knocking you or saying you are right or wrong but I am curious? I thought that the FCC sold the frequencey spectrum and it did not matter what type of technology is used? I guess I thought the major differences between technologies was the switch and the frequency was what was bought from the FCC in the area spectrum was purchased?
...
I'm not completely 100% on it, but from what I understand, and by all means correct me if I'm wrong, but you are correct: the fcc does sell the spectrum as it is, however, limits how many companies can be in one market...So, theoretically if that's the case, T-Mobile could technically buy spectrum and build towers there (area in general), but if no liscense was available for the market, then we could not estasbish service locally out of that area, with local numbers etc...even though we had native (owned)coverage.
So, I guess both yes and no.
...
okay so we agree in a goofy way! ๐
Okay so it really goes by frequencey then not exactly technology.

โThe FCC first off will come through and look at all overlapping markets and say what Sprint Nextel can and cannot have.โย
By the way, there were no divestitures.

I think another big merger like cingular or like sprint-Nextel wonโt happen in this industry, especially sine the FCC is very strong on that stance. They have mentioned they will look at every thing closely. It is all about spectrum cap and market dominance or not. I think the regional can get bought out though, but not as much anymore as before.
