Stolen Phone

Here is a question for anyone who knows. My father lost his RAZR today, it was an unlocked cingular model used on Tmobile. Is there anyway i can get it locked out of the system so the guy that has it and wont give it back to my father cant use it at all? It was lost outside of a starbucks and when we called it the guy answered and said he only found the sim card, who puts the sim card in a phone to see if anyone calls! So if there is a way please let me know, i really would like to screw this guy out a phone he thought he was getting for free.

Well, if T-Mobile have the IMEI of the phone in their system, call them and report the phone as stolen, and it'll be banned of the network, until you say otherwise. If they don't have the IMEI... very sorry, but there's not much to do.

T-Mobile customer service has every imei that has ever been used on your account in their system, but when I was working for them I could never get them to block an imei from the system, even with a police report.

So...sorry, but i don't think its gonna happen.

I'm not surprised. But it's quite a slap on the face, considering the price of the RAZR. Buying one is a risk to take, I guess.

This is why insurance comes in handy. Since the cops don't take it seriously, having it insured is pretty much your only recourse. We can't block an IMEI off the system since it's so common for people to use used phones or borrow from friends, and it would cause huge anarchy if someone could call up, report a phone stolen, get the use of it blocked on the system, then it turns out they were just pissed at their girlfriend or something and trying to stir up sh!t... 🙄

It's possible to insure a phone? Heh, nice. You know, seems the carriers in Canada are to even consider the possibility.

Just how much does it cost, anyway?
