I have a v635 unlocked for my travel to mexico and europe. I just bought a 1000 anytime minutes card from amazon for tmobile so it will last for a year. So does this mean that I cannot simply go into a tmobile store, buy a sim, use my card and have the phone working here? Do I actually have to go buy one of their pieces of crap prepaid phones to get the account working? I am only getting this so I can keep the phone active in the usa. For most of my calls here I use verizon with a samsung i730 pda smartphone.

If you have the V635, you don't have to buy anothe r prepaid phone. Its just the SIM card that makes the phones prepaid and postpaid.

Also, remember the prepaid phone SIM card will not work overseas like a postpaid SIM card will. Prepaid doesn't have roaming agreements like the postpaid accounts do.

oh i know that about the roaming agreement. It would be nice though if us carriers were better with their rates for roaming. Hey does anyone know how much a tmobile new sim costs with activation?

I think they give you a SIM card with activation.

Do you mean a prepaid "Tmo to Go" SIM or a monthly SIM? Monthly SIMs come with your account.

For prepaid "To Go" SIMs are $50 from corporate stores and includes $30 of talk time. If you want to go the prepaid route you'll do a whole lot better if you go to eBay where you'll get the same card with much more included time plus which some of these accounts are pre-activated so you don't have to activate. If when you get the account you want a different area code/area than the card is registered to just call customer care and they can arrange to have another area code/number assigned to the account.
